About Me

Hi, Mick Birch here. I started to play music at an early age thanks to my Dad who is a trad musician. But my first love was guitar and I acquired my first guitar, a Hofner President, at the age of 15. My first band appearance was with Steve Wickham and others in a a school gig in 1976. In '77 we put together a group called "Synergy". There was Steve Wickham (fiddle), Jack Dublin (bass and vocals), Rob Cambell (drums), Colm O'Hare (guitar) and myself (guitar). Steve went on to form "In tua nua". Jack and Rob were with Rocky DeValera and the Gravediggers. Jack was also a member of In Tua Nua. Rob went on to study the finer details of the financial markets while myself and Colm took to more traditional occupations. Rob and Jack are currently recording and touring with Audiokiss. After a lapse of about 25 years and after a lot of persuasion from a work colleague, Gerry O'Malley, I was invited to accompany him at a gig in Taylors' Hall. With not much time to think and getting too old to refuse I accepted. Gerry with his brother Martin have been in and out of the business in some form or another over the last number of years with Martin having his own recording studios.Musically, Gerry and Martin O'Malley are doing their utmost to help me in this area on bringing our very different musical styles together and recording them in Martin's studio in Ennis. Gerry writes and Martin composes and their back catalogue is enormus. They have put together a group of musicians, some young and well, some not so young called "Stile 13". A CD will be launched at the end of July'09 and we will see what happens after that....interesting times ahead.....
