I'd like to meet people who understand and fully accept the contradictions of life without judgement. Ultimately there are no contradictions because everything is paradox. I adore boxing but abhor violence. I'm vegetarian but I do wear leather shoes, and just because I’m a healing therapist I don’t have to stay home living a sedentary life, go to bed at 9pm and spend every spare moment meditating (although I do actually meditate with Runes every day!). I still go out dancing all night and I love to enjoy myself and continue to be an absolute social whirler, and I hope I always will!
And I want to meet clients who'd like to come and see me for a healing session. Have a look at my blog: 'Scarlett's House of Heavenly Healing' gives details of my sessions, and there's some client feedback in 'Testimonials' (find these in my Blog Archive).
I love music. Pop, punk, funk, soul, dance, hip hop, classical, drum & bass, lounge, opera, Bollywood and everything in between.
I like socially conscious music you can dance to, and I absolutely love words. I’m uplifted and inspired by Michael Franti And Spearhead and I’ve long loved Asian Dub Foundation. Also Buffy Sainte-Marie, who is totally fabulous.
Other stuff I like includes Kate Bush, Blackalicious, Nitin Sawhney, Maria Callas, St Germain, The Cramps, Carlos Santana, Marlena Shaw, Manu Chao, De La Soul, Parliament Funkadelic, anything Cuban cool but especially lovely Ibrahim Ferrer (sadly no longer with us), the Lagaan and Taal Bollywood Soundtracks, Massive Attack, any of the Hotel Costes compilations, 80s Prince (great words), Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, Puppini Sisters, The Mars Volta, Sheila Chandra, Sly Stone, EBTG and both the Lazy Dog compliations, Erykah Badu, Johnny Cash, The Carpenters, George Michael, SuV, Samson and Delilah by Saint Saens, The Clash, Roy Ayers, CSS, Dolly Parton – especially the “Little Sparrow†album, Bob Marley, The Smiths, Nina Simone, Gotan Project, Soul II Soul, Lauryn Hill’s “Miseducation of….†album, Gil Scott Heron,
…..and the million fabulous dance tunes that I’ve shaken my arse to over the years but could not name.
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg is my favourite film, closely followed by Amores Perros. There are too many to remember all the great films I’ve loved, but amongst my all-time favourites are The Shawshank Redemption, Pan’s Labyrinth, Perfume, anything with Bette Davis but especially Now Voyager, The Anniversary and The Whales of August, Being John Malkovitch, classic 1940s and 1950s films from the true era of Hollywood glamour, Crash (the newer one, not the Cronenberg), Female Trouble, Apocalypse Now, Intermission, 25 grams, anything by Pedro Almodovar, Barbarella, Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf? (“is your wife slim-hipped?â€), Sweet Charity (particularly for Sammy Davies singing The Rhythm of Life), anything by Hitchcock, Gone With The Wind, Elizabeth, Y tu mama tambien, Cinema Paradiso, Taxi Driver, Hasta Siempre, With or Without Fidel, anything by Gurinder Chadha, Bullet Boy, anything by Spike Lee, 6 Degrees of Separation, The Third Man, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, House of Flying Daggers, Blythe Spirit, Stand by Me, Shortbus, Come back to the 5 and dime Jimmy Dean Jimmy Dean, The Last King of Scotland, anything by Mira Nair.
Dr Who, Strictly Come Dancing, The Catherine Tate Show, Torchwood, Rome, Desperate Housewives, The Tudors, ER, Coronation Street, any BBC natural world programme, Heroes, Little Britain, Nighty Night, utter crap-ola favourites were Bad Girls and Footballers Wives (both so camp).
The Prophet by Kahlil Gibrain, Siddharta by Hermann Hesse, King of The World by David Remnick, The Fight by Norman Mailer, The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, Bury my heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown, A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth, The Catcher in The Rye by JD Salinger, any poetry by William Blake, High Magic’s Aid by Scrire aka Gerald Gardner (a wonderful English witch of 1940s), anything by Maya Angelou, The Readers Digest Guide to Creative Gardening and Food From Your Garden, The Secret Language of Birthdays (which I refer to a lot and is always accurate!), A Course in Miracles, Manifesto by Barefoot Doctor, and of course Louise L Hay, who REALLY knows about the magic of positive thought.
Many, many others, too many to name here.....
I'm especially honoured to include Kasturba Gandhi in my heroes. It can't have been easy being married to The Father of the Nation.
