During World War II whiskey was in short supply. Rum was too plentiful so bar owners were forced to purchase up to 50 cases of rum per order. Slippery liquor salesmen helped create the delicious and potent fruity red cocktail that would use up all this abundance of rum. I was soon served in a hurricane lamp and garnished with an orange slice and cherry.

How To Make A Hurricane:
2 oz light rum
- 2 oz dark rum
- 2 oz passion fruit juice
- 1 oz orange juice
- 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
- 1 tbsp simple syrup
- 1 tbsp grenadine
- Garnish: orange slice and cherry
Shake all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into a hurricane glass. Garnish with a cherry and an orange slice.
