Blame It: Named Trop Rock Song of the Year!

About Me

The Banana Express
May 7, 2008
Hello Friends, It is an absolutely beautiful day in the Florida Keys. This day started with a short boat ride from my little island at mile marker 24 to Sugarloaf Key. The seas were flat and the emerald waters were on fire with color. We docked at The Sugarloaf KOA Resort Marina (where we will be playing Saturday night, more on that later) and can’t wait to get back on the water. A friend of mine is installing an autopilot on my boat so I can steer hands free. That has a lot of people worried. I have some friends coming down to visit next week and we will be on the water morning to night every day so I am getting the old boat ready to party.
What a great weekend!! Thanks to EVERYONE!!! We had a great mini South Florida tour last week and how wonderful it was to see so many old and new friends. Special thanks to Wendy and Ed for all of their work in helping to set this up and getting the word out and making this such a successful tour. Also, thanks to all the Parrot Head groups that came out to all of the shows. Treasure Coast Parrot Heads, Barefoot Children of Ft. Lauderdale PHC, Space Coast PHC, Parrot Head Club of Palm Beaches, Tampa PHC, Naples PHC and Charlotte Harbor PHC. If I have left anyone out, please excuse me. Blame it on the rum punch. And of course, a big thanks to Cindy Walsh for all of her talents and opening so many doors. Let's support our kids!!! Two Great Benefits As I said earlier we are back in the Keys this week and will be performing at two wonderful charities this weekend. Saturday May 10th we will be part of the Sugarloaf KOA Care Camp. This special program sends children with cancer to summer camp. Because of the special need of these wonderful kids the camps have specially trained counselors and medical staffs – many of them volunteers. Camp at the KOA on Friday May 9th and stay Saturday May 10th for free. There are still some campsites left so if you are interested give them a call. You don’t have to camp to come out and party with us Saturday night at 7:00 PM. It is open to the public and we promise you will have a great time. Also, there will be family and kid activities all weekend. Sunday May 11th takes us to Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville in Key West for a benefit to support the Key West Boys and Girls Club. The party starts at 5:00 PM and will be our last public Key West performance before hitting the road on our summer tour. We hope you can join us this weekend for two wonderful benefits to support our kids. If you are unable to be in the area, you know we will raise a glass to you and send you warm tropical thoughts. Take care and may the tide always keep pulling you back.

As we said earlier, this is the International Year Of The Reef and we will be doing all sorts of things to celebrate this. We will keep everyone informed as things are finalized. Also, in May of this year the Vandenberg, a World War II troop transport ship, will be sunk off Key West to become a 522-foot artificial reef. We were honored to have been asked to write a song about this wonderful ship, her history and the treasure she is about to become. House Parties are Back!! Our summer tour is filling up fast and we are probably going to be in your area. We will keep everyone updated through our websites and newsletters. We also are going to offer our “House Parties” again this year. We started doing this last year and it was such a success. Basically you can have the Mile Marker 24 Band perform in your back yard, street, or wherever. Just invite a bunch of your friends over and have a party Keys style. We’ll do the rest. If you’re interested contact our planning folks at www.milemarker24.com or www.myspace.com/milemarker24 and they will give you an outline of how house parties work, and help you with everything. Our CD’s are Top Sellers
CD Baby Trop-Rock Genre Another exciting thing happened. We were notified that we have the top three best selling CDs at CD Baby under their Trop Rock genre. Number one is "Livin’ .. West Time", number two "Meet Me In The Keys" and "Blame It On The Margaritas" holds the third spot. We are very honored and thank everyone for supporting us.
