About Me

"One of the best bands who can bring a perfect mix between space rock and progressive rock music"-Background magazine
"Quantum Fantay can be proud on producing an international sounding album with Ugisiunsi which can easily be placed next to some big names in the genre."-John Bobo Bollenberg
"Agapanthusterra : a refreshing and very strong debut album , little by little there is totally a brand new 'progressive' wave of bands standing up in Belgium." -Prognose magazine
"The music is great, the production work couldn't be better ! Still can't believe what these young guys achieved. This deserves worldwide recognition!"-Fishy
Once upon a time in a small city called Lokeren ; two crazy friends (Pieter Van den Broeck (Pete Mush) and Wouter De Geest (Jaro)) were once again uniting their musical creativity to end up with a result of Liquid Space Rock(people been in the music business for ages still wonder what that is).The band 'Ozric Tentacles' is a perfect example. It's also a big influence for Pete and Jaro. The music makes you higher than high without using any drugs(music actually is a drug, but a very healthy one ;) ).And with some nice light, smoke and laser shows,(which they do very often),a Quantum gig is a spiritual experience and a show to remember a lifetime...To take the music on the road the two neighbours attracted back in 2002 drummer Gino Verhaegen, guitarplayer Dario Frodo and flute-player Karel Slabbaert (Charles Sla).Quantum Fantay, a name that came out of a typing error in fantasy was on it's way to hit the scene. In 2002 nobody could tell that Quantum Fantay's music would get massive airplay by many prog-rock,space,psychedelic,dub,electronic and even dance Dj's on the radio worldwide 4 years later...
They started with a try-out at the Jazzklub in Lokeren, played several clubs and stumbled into the east Flemish rock concours. In Rock around Lok, they even got into the finals. Finally they've tested the T-Klub audience many many times before releasing their first album in 2005:Agapanthusterra.It is an album full of hypnotic waves, atmospheric soundscapes, psychedelic synths, haunting melodies, woody groovy basslines with energy driven and experimental drums. Also in that year they played the Fonnefeesten (subdivision of Lokerse Feesten).Quantum even played someinternational gigs in Luxemburg followed by the Prog convention 2006 in Verviers and a Taste of Belgium in Spirit of 66.
2007 saw the release of Ugisiunsi, their second studio album recorded at "Pete's Mushroom land" recording studio. This creation was a step further in terms of production and playing. The music had a lot matured from the beginning days. This time the guitar was played by Macedoniën session player Srdjan Vucic. Also for the first time a female voice is heard at the beginning of the titletrack. The Burg-Herzberg festival 2007 in Germany was a real highlight for Quantum Fantay. With Dario Frodo back on guitars, they've played for thousands of people with a view at some haunting forests, and the stage-set surrounded by mountains;the ultimate Quantum gig for sure!
As for 2008 a great fanbase is still growing and the first European tour opened new doors.Recordings for the next studio album are fully on now,and we can honestly tell you that the new tracks are once again another magical experience!.
Watch this space to be informed correctly, this is the only true nr 1 official source if it comes to Quantum Fantay now,
greetings,
the band.
And now some short facts about the bandmembers (read at your own risk) :
Pete Mush is the synthplayer and main songwriter for Quantum Fantay, but the others get their say too(well actually,if he's in a good mood). He's also the technician of the gang. Very busy when it comes to music because besides Quantum,he plays in power-prog band Without sorrow and rockcoverband The final catch. He was also a member of Ghiribizzi. He took lessons at Ozma Rockschool where he was tutored by Franky De Mangelaere. He already used 10 keyboards back then...or was it 15? ....maybe there were 22.We still don't know !? Pete Mush is the most"crazy" Quantum member.
Jaro is the bassplayer of Quantum Fantay. He used to play in flower power band CM Lobster and The Dirty Smokers, but is now completely focused and high upon Quantum. He picked up a bassguitar at some musicstore workfloor and yelled "i'm a bassplayer",before he even could play.Strange world isn't it ?He is also a great dj wich can be heard at several local party's.Jaro is the most "weird" Quantum member.
Gino 'Bartolini' Verhaegen is the band's rhythmical driving force along with Jaro. His drumming can also be heard with Ghiribizzi,Without Sorrow,The final catch and Lash"live".He is a real beatmaster when it comes to timing and feel.Taking some wise advice from Mario Pauwels and Kurt De Vylder when he was young to learn how to be a good musician and pain in the ass for the other band members, especially the bassplayers,he managed himself to go on and learn & experience a range of musical styles and bands through out the years.Gino is the most "bizarre" person in the band.
Dario Frodo is the heavy dude who plays the guitars now. He's intellectual and sometimes hyper-active brainwires match and define with the other lunatics from Quantum.Dario also played the guitars for progressive rock project Ghiribizzi and other international prog-rock artists.Dario had a nose for music from when he was young supported by his father, who is one the best roadie's that can be found.Further on Dario is also a member of Without sorrow,Gemini Season and The final catch.Dario is the most "hyper-active" person in Quantum.
Karel "Charles Sla" Slabbaert is the fluteplayer. He used to play in CM Lobster and The Dirty Smokers with Jaro.Charles had a classical schooling for flute and piano. He loves to play his flute anywhere anytime ....Charles is the most "relaxed" person in the band.
