About Me

RUN's ANGELA BiographyThree Canadians with American citizenship form a rock band called Bitterfly in Montreal 1996. They're not French-Canadian (although they speak French) and they are RAWK, not indie, so they figure if they want a record deal they should move to Los Angeles. They do in late 2000.It is the misguided thinking of every band from everywhere that's not New York or LA. Move to the epicenter of the industry, get discovered by some hip A&R guy and be Rock Stars. It's destiny-damn it!It never works, does it? OK, Guns N' Roses, but that was 20 years ago.In 2003 it was going to work for Bitterfly. They spent 2001 and 2002 writing music and playing the Sunset Strip. They wrote great songs. Hooky songs. Song with melodies you could hum, choruses you could shout and riffs you could rock out to. They recorded their stuff and in 2003 they added a bass player from L.A., and changed their name to The Itis: new tunes, new member--why not a new name, a new start. What the hell is The Itis? It's the disease, the affliction that they couldn't let take hold. The malaise that sets in when you do nothing, go nowhere, and sit around wishing something would happen in your life. They came to the big city to escape that, so they named it because it would remind them that they weren't going back, ever. Their logo was a running man running away, running to, and running with at the same time, but always running.Their four-song demo got around. They found a manager and a lawyer who got it to guys at the majors who sign the bands that become rock stars. They did the private showcases, they were taken out to dinner and heard what they wanted to hear, we love what you do, the radio will love it, the kids will love it,we want to sign your band. Now it was on. Of course, this is the way it was always going to work out, but it didn't.Why? What happened? The president of this label didn't think it was indie enough. That label was going through too many changes at the top. Oh, and this other label needed a few more labels to be interested. The dream was over. The L.A. bass player left. Use Your Illusion, Volume III. There would be no Chinese Democracy. But The Itis. Don't let it creep up. Keep running. And they did. They recorded more songs and finished a full record. 10 killer tunes about sorrow, hope, desperation and anger saturated with blaring guitars, grungy bass and a propulsive drums. Emotive lyrics delivered honestly in gritty growls, whispers and belts of rock angst. The album found the right ears; people who believed enough to fund a campaign to keep the dream alive, get distribution and put the music out there on the internet, on the radio. Give it a chance to find an audience. And it did. But first, they had to put The Itis behind them, so they got a new bass player and changed their name to, what else, RUN. The Itis became the title of the album--a reminder of the beginning and the end.In July of 2005, they took the first single "Wasting Away" to radio and radio responded. More than a dozen commercial Alternative and Rock stations across the country added the record and many more played it: quite a feat for a band that had no big label to back it and no history of ever being there before. And then it went online to all the sites that promote your band and the response was even stronger. "Wasting Away" became the ..1 song on AOL Radio's "New Rock First" channel beating out all the bands on all the major labels that had a reason not to sign them. And then it went into space. XM satellite radio added the single and kept playing it and playing it and is still playing it.And then RUN came back down to earth and did what all great rock bands have to do. Go to the fans of rock music. Get a van and a trailer and drive it across the country. Sleep in it, live in it and play shows anywhere and everywhere that will have you. Sell CDs and T-shirts out of boxes, set up on the quads of college campuses with acoustic guitars, rock house parties and frat parties, bars and clubs. Just keeping running. And that's where RUN is now. In your town, playing at your club, making you remember the hooks, hum the melodies and freaking RAWK out. On their way to the dream. Living it. Running....................
