Band Members: Ian Smith has been a professional musician for 19 years. Ian has gained enormous experience in a wide variety of musical idioms and performed around the world.
Live work with numerous national and international artists have included Gladys Knight, Barry Manilow, The Three Degrees, Sister Sledge, The Temptations, The Supremes, Buddy Greco, The Four Tops, Jools Holland, Roger Daltrey, Gary Brooker, Paul Young, Alice Cooper, Lorna Luft, Al Martino, Tommy Steele and many more.
Theatre experience has included work on the major UK tours of Guys & Dolls, Barnum, 42nd Street, A Chorus Line, Blues In The Night, Copacabana, Tommy Steele - What a Show!, Evita, Phantom of the Opera, Singin’ in the Rain, Me & My Girl, Joseph & His Technicolor Dreamcoat, West Side Story, My One and Only and Chicago.
London West-End Theatre experience has included extensive work on the award winning City of Angels, West Side Story, Chicago and as exclusive dep/sub for world-renowned Irish saxophonist Kenneth Edge (Original “Riverdance†artist) in The Shaughraun at The Albery Theatre (now The Noel Coward Theatre), London.
Ian has been involved in a variety of work with the Royal Shakespeare Company, debuting with a revival of Timon of Athens, both at Stratford-upon-Avon and Newcastle-upon-Tyne, playing Alto / Baritone Saxes and Piccolo on the critically-acclaimed recreation of Duke Ellington’s score. His most recent visit to the home of Shakespeare has been to provide the Saxophone/Woodwind music for the RSC’s 2006/2007 Winter Season productions of The Winter’s Tale and Pericles.
Orchestral extra work has been undertaken for a variety of projects such as playing Clarinet and Alto Saxophone for Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s performance of Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances on “On The Town†and various interpretations of Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast on Alto Saxophone.
Television and Radio experience has been extensive with work for both BBC and Independent companies. Recent examples include BBC1’s TV Special One Night With Barry Manilow, ITV1’s X-Factor and the 2006 BBC Licence Fee Advertising Jingle. In addition there have been several appearances on ITV / Central Television’s Central Weekend (when a live band was used), numerous recordings for BBC Radio 2 (Charlie Chester Show, Jingles, Library Music), several appearances on BBC TV’s Daytime Live, Pebble Mill at One and magazine shows.
