Stepan Smetacek was born in 1971 to a musical family - his father Pavel a known jazzman, mother Marta a musicologist and grandfather Vaclav a symphony conductor. He completed studies of Conservatory in Prague in discoplaine percussion instruments.He quickly becomes a well known drummer and since then is busy in various engagements and recordings. He recorded more then 30 cd..s, played with czech and international projects of variose music styles. Stepan participiets like a composer or arranger on many of these projects.
Since of '95 he started compose own music for his albums and later, for his original project named New Orchestra of Dreams. His music is unclassifiable, on a borders of many styles, band is still growing up, from one man band (first album ....to be continued....) to bigband (live shows today). New Orchestra of Dreams as jazzrock bigband colaborated with few czech stars like vocalists Dan Barta, Lenka Dusilova, Tonya Graves, saxophonist Frantisek Kop, performer and creativ friend Michael Kyselka. New Orchestra of Dreams plays original compositions by Stepan Smetecek and as well as remakes rock, jazz and classic music in his arrangements.Currently Stepan Smetacek performs as a session drummer for czech pop star singer Aneta Langerova, rock'n'roll band Airfare, with international drummers project Slet bubeniku (Gathering of drummers), records and teachs and also performs music from his CD's with Stepan Smetacek & friends.
