Up-North Southern Rock and Blues!

About Me

Up-North Southern Rock and Blues. Welcome to our space! How does a band keep rockers and blues fans satisfied all night long? Good old-fashioned Southern Rock! With elements of blues, rock, soul, and country, this genre lends itself well to a crowd-pleasing musical mix. Rockin' tunes and cool blues rhythms are a sure combination to ensure that not only the rockers keep rockin', but the blues fans get their fix as well.Soul Shine does not simply mimic the original, they work to create a new re-telling of these classic tunes. Band members Bryan Michael Fischer (vocals), Bill Newland (drums), Bob Wild (bass), Tracy Kent (guitar) and Donn Johnson (guitar) all bring different musical backgrounds to the table to form a wonderful mix of styles, translating this timeless music in an original way without losing sight of what makes these songs classics. Soul Shine draws on a song list that reads like a “Who's Who” of classic Southern Rock; The Allman Brothers, The Black Crowes, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, Mountain, Blackfoot, and ZZ Top just to name a few. On top of all this, they've added some Santana, Credence Clearwater Revival, and Johnny Cash, as well as blues by such names as Taj Mahal, BB King, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, to create a cool musical experience for both the audience and band!Long-time veterans of the music scene, Soul Shine may be a new band, but certainly not new-comers to the business. These guys know how to put on a show, and plan on keeping their audiences dancing the night away to Northern Michigan-style Southern Rock and Blues!

Influences: We draw from a wide variety of musical styles. All the members of the band have come from different musical backgrounds, so it makes for some very interesting stylistic mixes. Most all of us come from a rock n roll background of one form or another. Bryan was the front man for a 80'-90's heavy metal band when he first began. Bill played in a surf-rock/blues group in the Ann Arbor, MI area for a number of years. Bob has played everything from blues to hard rock to country swing. Donn has a Motown upbringing. Tracy is a rocker from way-back. All of us have come together under a "Blues" umbrella, and now incorporate that into a Southern Rock format. If you're looking for that mile-long list of band and artist names like a lot of other bands have on their spaces, then here goes (in no particular order)...The Allman Brothers Band, Bob Segar, AC/DC, BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Taj Mahal, Guy Forsyth, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, James Brown, Bobby "Blue" Bland, John Mayer, Drew Pentkowski, Dreck Trucks, Eric Clapton, Bill Newland, Bo Diddley, George Thoroughood, Donn Johnson, Monty Python, Larry, Moe and Curly, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, Jeff Beck, Chuck berry, the Beach Boys, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Wild, Alice Cooper, BTO, CCR, BMW, IBM, CIA, DUI, DOA, Tracy Kent, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Stevie Wonder, Steve Winwood, Billy Preston, Bill Withers, Frank Zappa, Frank Sinatra, Hank Sinatra (you know who you are!), Keb Mo, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter, Wilson Picket, Jackie Wilson, Mozart, Ronnie Earl, Steve Earl, Larry, Darryl and Darryl, Bryan Michael Fischer, ZZ Top, The Who, The Rolling Stones, John Fogarty, The Dude, Buddy Guy, Duke Robilard, Smokey Robinson, and all the other music we listen to every day. Every musician is a sponge, soaking up all the music we hear throughout the days, and then spitting it back out in some way or another. We are all a product of our musical environments.
Sounds Like: Up-North Southern Rock! We strive for an original way to perform these classic tunes, without losing sight of why we love them!

Well, a little less than a week into this new venture, and we have a rhythm section, a name, and an idea of what we want to do.  Bill and Bob have agreed to come along on this ride, and I just ca...
