The West Michigan Blues Society was organized in 1991 to:
* Promote blues appreciation by sponsoring concerts, festivals and community events.
* Cooperate and correspond with other blues oriented groups, locally and around the world, and exchange ideas that will enhance the program locally and nationally.
* Provide an opportunity for blues fans to meet and enjoy the fellowship of others with similar interests.
* Foster greater awareness and love of the blues among the commuinty by teaching and performing blue in schools and elsewhere.
The WMBS is a 501(c)(3) non-stock corporation organized and run by a member-elected Board of Directors.

The WMBS sponsors blues education presentations known as the "Blues in the Schools program". WMBS also co-produces, underwrites, sponsors and promotes performances in local venues as well as hosting an annual IBC competition to choose a band for sponsorship to the national IBC competition in Memphis.

WMBS members hail not just from the Grand Rapids area, but along the lakeshore, and points north, as well as other parts of the country. Our members come from all walks of life, with interests that are as unique and individual as they are. The common factor is their love and enjoyment of Blues Music, and we strive to provide an avenue to bring together those who are as passionate as we are about Blues.
