Buttermonkey was started in 1985 by Regis P. and Bumo Bastardo in Springfield Illinois recording and mastering bands such as: Pompous-ID, 7 Inch Slug, and Soul Pudding. It also assisted in a live recording of The Residents that was released in the mid- 90's. It is now mearly a network for introducing and exposing Illinois and Mid-West bands to the rest of the world. The small independent label was mainly for experimental recordings. The local label was assisted by a small staff consisting of Huliba Noyz, Gabby, Tom, Coco, Xan and Max.______________________________________________________
*THE BONARDS* - By the year 2000 Buttermonkey was experimenting with the band The Bonards, who would get drunk and whatever else, then record. This happened in several sessions. The band would then listen back to the tracks, pick out what they liked and learn or re-learn these spontaneous tracks as songs. The Bonards recorded a 30 track album this way called "Bonards". Due to the content of the music and their place in the community, they always wore costumes when playing live to hide their identities. Every show had a hotdog vendor "Hotdog Man" on stage to feed the attendees. Every show was documented by BonCam Tam. The Bonards are: Lead Crooner - Exacto Mundo, Guitar - Nomad Repos, Drums - Hanger the Cat, Bass - Zaphod Beeblebass, Synthaxe - Synthia Sugarcane. Sometimes joined by guest musicians Nosho Joe - trumpet/keyboards, D.J. Hotwheels - turntable, Marcus - Trumpet, Cowgirl Stephanie - Tamborine, John Brownback - Magician, and even Bumo himself would join with noise/ sonic modulator.

*ABE LINCOLN CONTINENTAL* - In 2001 this Springfield band was recorded and mastered by buttermonkey on the album "Live in the Alley". This band was a rough alt-country/blue collar rock and roll quartet who played throughout Illinois. They drank beer and wrote songs while still learning to play their instruments, sometimes passing out at practice. They were playing in clubs in less than a year. The recording truly captured their original sound which was mainly solid state amps and a sub-par Del Ray drumset which did not include a hi-hat or floor tom but did feature a saw blade. Abe Lincoln Continental are: Jay Vanselow - Guitar/vocals(now of Seething Coast), Brian Lee - Guitar/vocals, Scott Leach - Bass, Damon Soper - Drums_ _ _ _ _ _______________________________________________ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
*LOS INJECTORS* - Also in 2001, Buttermonkey mastered this Springfield quartets' self titled album along with their live recorded album "Live - 2001" which combined Rockabilly and Metal to form "Metalbilly". This band started out as a young rockabilly band performing rockabilly classics along with some surf instrumentals and a George Jones' cover. They played shows with acts like Big Sandy and the Flyright Boys, Bluemoon Boys and Candy Kane. Eventually the bands' true metal and punk influences starting showing up in their song writing. The fender twin amp was replaced with a Eddie Van Halen 5150 still maintaining the upright bass but now being played through a Hartke 4 x 12 cabinet. The George Jones covers were traded in for Metallica and Motorhead classics. The more traditional rockabilly bands they used to do shows with scoffed at the new sound, along with their crowds so Los Injectors started playing with the more aggressive bands like Trip Daddys, 7 Shot Screamers and Olivia Neutron Bomb. Los Injectors are: Matt Vanselow - Vocals, Damon Soper - Guitar, Jeff Cunningham - Upright bass, Chris Warren - Drums.
_________________________________________________________ *MAG* - In 2002, Buttermonkey had the pleasure of mastering this local punk rock bands debut album. Even though this punk trio had been playing for more than 8 years, they never recorded any of their original material until this album. Mag has a combination of influential bands such as AC/DC, Minor Threat, NIL8, Iron Maiden, Kiss, Black Flag and Misfits. They recorded their 18 track album "Superadolescent" in Springfield at North Side Studios with Timmy Costello of the band Park. The recording truly captured the bands' live energy as well as their lust for beer drinkin, driving fast, skateboarding and plain ole "MAGin' around". The recording featured some MAG classics as well as some new material and hot licks. MAG is Gary Brammer-Guitar/Vocals, Andy Trello - Drums, Matt Mackay - Bass.
