The Damwell Betters

In the Studio

About Me

In the fall of 2005, the Damwell Betters started rehearsals for their new rock n roll out fit. Lead by song- writer and Springfield local mainstay Joshua Catalano, the group had their first show at the Underground City Tavern. With Patrick Miller on drums, Jordan Laier on bass, and Michael Sullivan on lead guitar, the band started recording their first E.P. in the spring of 2006 at true tone studios in Springfield, Illinois. The self- titled record was released in July 2006 when the band opened for Marah and the Bottle Rockets. Soon after, the band recruited Marc Broomby, who graduated as a bass player from the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. This moved Jordan Laier to the multi instrumentalist position, playing anything from guitar to keyboards to pedal steel. After a small amount of touring, the band started recording their first full-length album at Moonpanda Studio (Marc Broomby Studio) in Springfield, Illinois in February of 2007. During the recording process, Michael Sullivan decided to leave the band. The band recruited guitar player Joe Calandrino. He is an accomplished guitarist who used to play the casino circuit and with countless local bands. Known for his versatility and gusto, Calandrino was a perfect fit for the up and coming Damwell Betters. With the line up solidified, the Damwell Betters released Make Love not Babies (Moonpanda Records) in August of 2007. The CD release party was the Underground City Tavern’s biggest show to date with almost 400 people. It was not only a spectacular turn out, but their audience sang praises for their best performance yet. Since the great reviews the band has planned a winter tour and is making plans to play in England and Europe in the following year.

Sounds Like: --You know a night with The Damwell Betters is gonna be a crowd pleaser. From the blue-collar grit of "Uniontown" to the back alley, neon light sexiness of "Big Thrills," these boys play rock n' roll like it should be played. Songwriter Josh Catalano's often brutally honest lyrics and the bands engaging and adrenaline pumping rhythms create the kind of atmosphere that true rock lovers crave. The Damwell Betters combine the sincerity of legends like Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen with the no-holds-barred stage presence of newer bands like Marah and Slobberbone to leave the audience feeling like they've just witnessed the beginning of something big. And they have. Brian Reilly, UCT --------------------- The Damwell Betters are without a doubt the most honest-to-goodness, get-down-and-do-it rock bands. They combine elements of distinct singer-songwriter material with classic rock and country Americana to make a mix you damn well don't want to miss. --- Tom Irwin, Illinois Times----------------------"American Rock! This five-piece rock band from Springfield, IL is hitting the road armed with their self-produced E.P and a studio album on the way. Thoughtful melodies and superior musicianship come together to make The Damwell Betters one of the hottest acts to come out of 2005. Their stage show is most certainly highlighted by their never-ending ability to switch gears and keep the audience on its toes. This band showcases what modern American music should be. Look for The Damwell Betters to soak up fans of punk, alt-country, and pop as they deliver their unique brand of rock and roll to the rest of the nation." -Patrick Hagerman 88.3 WQNA
