The millennium hip-hop world is all about the pride, the culture, and the experience of the South. As the time ushered in a new age, so did it also ordain southern hip-hop, particularly that of Atlanta, as one of its most fertile breeding grounds for producing crops of prolific rappers. These artists flip a mellifluous vernacular and drawl when articulating some of the most colorful stories about growing up in southern ghettos ? be they city or rural. No matter how edgy or boastful some of these tales might be, most of the time they are necessary for redefining and broadening the musical landscape. Adding his chameleon-like style to the Peach State's field of offerings is Atlanta, Georgia-born Yung Joc. After grinding in the streets and doing what he had to do to maintain his rap credibility, the College Park/SWATS-bred MC is getting his chance to shine through the tutelage of Block Entertainment/Bad Boy South. Poised as Atlanta's next big hip-hop star, Yung Joc is set to break topsoil and emerge fully-grown into hip-hop culture's mainstream.
Early success
Yung Joc is best known for his catchy beats. His break-out song, "It's Goin' Down" was produced by Nitti and So So Def Records. This lead-off single, off the album New Joc City, was a huge success in the United States. Though critically-smited, the single made its way into America's top 5 and was an extremely heavily-downloaded tune on iTunes, Top metros for Joc searches are Jackson, Mississippi; Columbia, South Carolina; and New Orleans, Louisiana. The second single, "I Know You See It," is beginning to climb up the charts mainly because of its video-play. It debuted at number 143, and currently is sitting at 17.
Joc is noted as the first artist in two years to have a top forty U.S. hit on Bad Boy Records closely followed by labelmate Cassie's huge hit, Me and You in which Joc is featured in the remix. In addition to being the latest sensation of Bad Boy South and Block Entertainment, Yung Joc has become president of Mastermind Music, a record label begun by himself and friend, Chino Dollar.
Yung Joc's third single will be 1st Time ft. Marques Houston and Trey Songz. The video will premiere on BET's Access Granted. Yung Joc is also featured on the song "Show Stopper" by Danity Kane (from P.Diddy's Making The Band 3). He is not related to rapper Young Jeezy or blues singer Otis Redding.link
