The Howard Government is invading remote NT without • involving local community members about appropriate strategies to achieve its intended outcomes. • consulting the NT government on a any joint strategies or even identifying its invasion plans • commitment to any long term measures to bring about social change where it is urgently needed in remote communities? • any attempt at constructive dialogue with those most affected; ie. NT community members? • any long-term community development plans, programs or policies SOUND FAMILIAR? The Federal Government has betrayed 40,000 Northern Territorians by • removing their right to complain to the NT Anti-Discrimination Commission or the (C'wlth) Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission about the conduct of the government’s invasion forces. • removing their right to appeal decisions made by the government’s invasion forces concerning their children’s behavior or their family financial management. • authorising the government’s invasion forces to take-over control of whole towns, community stores, community and private property and businesses. • imposing a monitoring and surveillance regime backed by the coercive powers of National Crimes Commission and federal agents to be known as ‘observers’ to spy on indigenous organizations or those of supportive friends. REMIND YOU OF ANYTHING? The Federal government has made no commitment to provide • the 4000 homes it both knows is urgently needed in the NT to bring the average indigenous housing occupancy down to an average of 7 • the extra schools, class rooms, teachers, chairs and desks it knows are necessary so that remote indigenous children can actually attend classes • the dental, dietary, pharmaceutical, medical and primary health care it knows are unavailable in the communities they have invaded • any democratic or judicially reviewable decision-making in its invasion zones where it intends to install mini-dictators it knows will do the bidding of Canberra without regard to the interests of any local person, custom or tradition • any indigenous employment in indigenous communities when it knows its will provide highly paid tax free non-indigenous jobs for in those same communities from the hundreds of millions of dollars it spends on the invasion IS THAT GOOD GOVERNMENT?
