Surrender Munkies - working for peanuts

About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4. . . . . . . . . . Formerly a sixteen piece outfit called the Intrepid Cheese-eaters, the genre smashing Surrender Munkies were born out of a disastrous barbecue in the dark blue November 2002. Chris Patrao, renowned rhythm guitarist and local bourbon connoisseur, made a simple suggestion and thirteen of the band members left in a huff, leaving: Chris (VIOLET HANDS, OTTO'S JACKET); Liam of the Bass (GOYA'S CHILD, SILICON BABIES, UNWASHED POTATOES); and Gypsy (The Gypsy) Robbins (MEN IN BLACK, VIOLET HANDS, SANDHURST SANITORIUM REHABILITATION CHOIR) on slide and mandolin.Together they forged a new sound and finished off the coleslaw. The other thirteen were never heard of again and never will be because they were a bunch of talentless freaks who couldn't take a joke. The name "Surrender Munkies" came from an incident the next morning as Chris's girlfriend Kelly made scones while every one waited for the C.A.T team. The Surrender Munkies are about the human predicament - specifically the predicament of living next door to a crazy woman with a morbid detestation of contemporary country rock harmonies with lilting voices and poignant lyrics. Least that's how Blackhirst tells it, but what would he know? He's nuts. Got to find some good musos to replace these dipsomaniacs. And then along came Lance Hillier (Australian Playboy lifetime member and inventor of the shoe horn) and Rod Bradbury (former lover of Rose Porteous), who are trying to turn us into some kind of Professional Act. Some people love a challenge, that's all I can say.

Band Members: Liam Thorpe (bass and vocals), Gypsy Robbins (mandolin and lap slide), Chris Patrao (rhythm twangers (completely new and never to be repeated rhythms) and backing vocals), Lance Hillier (lead guitar and weather reports), Rod Bradbury (drums and reality checks cashed here). The early songs were written collaboratively by Thorpe/Patrao, based partly upon the lyrics of Rod Blackhirst, the prolific writer, scholar and hedonist (also masochist); most of the other songs are collaborative in nature by the time we have finished with them any way.
