"Every emotion inside of me gives an illustration of my soul, and I want to share a part of me with you through my music.” Tonni Robertson TRTonni’s unique music is a soulful blend of gospel infused with R&B flavor. Having had a love affair with both genres since she was a child, she effortlessly weaves these two styles together in a way that few artists are able to. “Many other artists in the gospel industry they have attempted this same approach, but they tend to get stuck in one category or the other. I believe that my music really transcends several categories, and I hope that listeners will be able to hear the emotion that I put into my songs. My dream is that music lovers will appreciate me for the quality of music I make, and not what particular genre I may be placed in.” Tonni was born in Kansas City, MO, in an urban community. She was raised by her loving grandparents who instilled strong values in her from a young age. She was introduced to gospel in the church, and she began singing at church programs, school talent shows, and national organizations in her community from the tender age of 4. By the time she was 10 years old, Tonni won a statewide talent competition in which she sang “The Greatest Love of All” by Whitney Houston. “I have always been inspired by Ms. Houston’s vocal talents, and I hope to be a positive influence on others through my music as she has been to me.” Tonni has also shared the stage with musical greats such as Karen Clark Sheared, Dewayne Woods, The Pace Sisters, Pastor John P. Kee, Pastor Timothy Wright, Ann Nesby, Anthony Grant (of AZ Yet), and Dottie Peoples. Other artists who continue to inspire Tonni musically include Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Michael Jackson, Anita Baker, Pattie Labelle, and Billy Holiday.Tonni is currently on tour with a national gospel theater production entitled “Save Me from my Secrets,” and she has discovered a passion for acting. In fact, she has had the opportunity to work side by side with several actors, including Darrin Henson (from the movie “Stomp” and the HBO series “Soul Food”) and Mel Jackson (from the movie “The Temptation” and “Deliver us from Eva.”Tonni is a much-needed breath of fresh air in a music scene that is in dire need of new talent. She brings a unique musical style that is a pleasant departure from the “same ‘ole same ‘ole” we hear on the radio these days. As Tonni puts it, “I want to be a trendsetter while remaining true to the roots of my soul. I would love for my music to relate to everyone, and I hope I can inspire others to change their lives for the better.” With strong faith and an air of confidence, Tonni is bound to achieve her lifelong dream of becoming a successful singer on the world stage.
