Matthew Antelmi Patone, the 23 year old New Yorker, who goes by the street name “Kritikalâ€, has been very busy building a buzz lately. From NY to MIA, he has been hard at work tearin' up stages. What started out as an argument over who could write the best rhymes, Kritikal cites this friendly spatter as his inspiration to get into the music industry. “My friend was persistent that it was difficult to rap, so I decided to prove him wrong. After writing a couple of verses, and all the good feedback, I just stuck with it.â€
An inspiration to his music, his brother has really played a big role in many of the tracks found on each of his albums. He cites the many situations he’s seen throughout his upbringing for the creative evolution of his music. His first song, called ‘Verbally Vicious’ was all about bragging about how much nicer he was at rapping than anyone else who spits. “After listening to it, I would constantly try to find ways to make it better, which would end with me just writing a new song.†Since his first song 12 years ago, he’s been the mastermind behind 5 full-length cd’s.
While recording, he lets the lyrics just flow from the top of his head. He lets the beats speak. “While I'm writing my music, all I really think about is what the beat says to me. I listen to a beat, and it speaks, and whatever it says I write down. With each album, the verses and concepts keep getting better and better.â€
“Everywhere I go I always get kicked out!" As Kritikal starts off his street anthem "Rowdy" you can already tell you're in for a ride. Currently working on his 6th ‘street’ album "Diamond in the Dirt", he promises to not let his listeners down. Touching on topics from all aspects of life, Kritikal's newest work is sure to please.
Whether it's the hypnotic sounds of "Mind Blown" or the vivid tales of life on "Things I Seen". Along with his "Dirtbag Click", Kritikal seems poised to become the next big thing in the rap game. Approaching 12 years of writing rhymes & rockin' the M-I-C, The KRT has got 1 foot in the door & is ready to kick it open. So stay tuned & check back often for updates & clips of his new tracks.
