Derrick Andrew Milan a blessing from God was sent onto earth that would truly represent how devotion, commitment and love could be displayed. Derrick Andrew Milan was given from God to his wonderful parents on September 5, in Lincoln Park, Michigan. Derricks parents always knew that he had a special gift that would extend unto his musical capabilities. At the tender age of 12 Derrick began playing the piano. He always had such a great interest in learning how the melodic sound coming from the infamous black instrument could extend a peaceful sound of harmony unto the virgin ear. After much practice and preparation, Derrick mastered the skills of playing the piano, to not only plays various tunes, but to give God back the glory and began to only play religious music. Being reared in the church all of his life, by the age of 14, Derrick directed the Gordy Memorial Church of God in Christ Youth Choir where he received much training and guidance. The magnitude of time and commitment that Derrick put into his position at Gordy C.O.G.I.C, gave him the opportunity to further his skills. In 1987, he became the Minister of Music of the Peters Rock Baptist Church and allowed God to usher into his life, a great talent of music writing, song writing and directing. While at Peters Rock, Derrick accomplished many goals and received many accolades for his hard work and determination. In 1988, he led the Peters Rock Mass Choir to win many local and national competitions: 1990-The McDonalds Gospel Fest, 1992-The Thorn Apple Valley Gospel Competition and The Quaker Oaks Competition. Also the Peters Rock Mass Choir recorded their first project in 1993 under the Sound of Gospel Recording Label, which was entitled A Message for the Rock. Their second recording Over and Over was completed in 1996, which featured special guest recording artist Kim Burrell. Furthermore, the third recording, Derrick Milan Ministry and Praise, completed in 1999, which featured the Peters Rock Mass Choir. Label mate, gospel recording artist, actress and evangelist, Wanda Nero Butler, produced the project. Throughout all of his diligence and dedication, Derricks gifts and talents led him to work with some of the most popular and anointed artists within the Gospel Music Industry. Such artists include Marvin Winans, Mary J. Blidge, Stephanie Mills, Kirk Franklin, James Moore, Donald Vails, Kim Burrell, Charlie Wilson, The Clark Sisters, Donald Lawrence, Lexi, Kurt Carr, Rudolph Stanfield,(his mentor) just to name a few. Derrick is also an active member of the Gospel Music Workshop of America Youth Chapter on both local (Michigan) and national levels. Derrick continues to share his musical abilities and faithfully serve our Savoir through his gifts. In May of 2000, a new generation of praise and worshippers was birthed as Derrick continued to forge ahead by forming Derrick Milan & The Krew. The thirty members Group travels extensively throughout the United States lifting up the Name of Jesus in song, and are in great demand for many musical engagements. Our first album, Derrick Milan, Live in Detroit introducing the KREW entitled I've been Through too Much Already. This project was enthusiastically embraced and radically celebrated by those who have followed Derricks Ministry over the years. Soul-stirring, Revolutionary, and Transformational are all words used to describe this brilliant musical composition produced by the Group. The Krew's second release will be in stores, 2007. Not only is the Krew touching and changing lives for Gods Glory through music, but the Group also impacts the lives of youth as volunteer tutors through Volunteer Impacts Tutoring Program. Additionally, they are also generous supporters and donors of other non-profit organizations such as the United Negro College Fund, the NAACP, and the Karmanos Institute for Breast Cancer Research. We never understand the purpose God has for us. But what we do understand is that God has given us all talents that we should use to uplift his kingdom. For Derrick, through his talents on the piano and organ and through his gift of a musical ear, he has even begun to lay foundation in the kingdom. If you've think you've seen it all, trust and believe you haven't seen anything yet! Keep your eyes and ears open as God continues to powerfully impact lives for His Glory through the music ministry of Derrick Milan & The Krew. They were indeed brought into the Kingdom for such a time as this!
