About Me

I've been involved in the world of psychic phenomena (and it's study, Parapsychology) directly -- academically and professionally -- for close to 30 years, and interested in it since a kid. I consider myself a generalist in the field, with particular interest and expertise in investigations/study of apparitions (ghosts), hauntings and poltergeists. I have three books out at the moment (A PARANORMAL CASEBOOK, GHOST HUNTING, and HAUNTINGS & POLTERGEISTS), having written a total of 7, and offer a Certificate Program in Parapsychological Studies at HCH Institute in Lafayette, CA -- which is available for both local classes and distance learning (in audio format with live teleclasses/individual discussion). If you go to my main website, www.mindreader.com/home, you'll find information on the program, my books and many free articles I've written over the years on the Paranormal. The specific webpage for the classes in the program, which can also be taken individually, is at www.hypnotherapytraining.com/parapsych.cfmIf you're a fan of paranormal shows you've likely seen me on A&E, the History Channel, the Travel Channel, Discovery Channel, TLC or even the SciFi Channel -- they constantly rerun the shows I've done (and there are occasional new ones, of course). I thoroughly enjoy working with the Media, which is natural given the number of folks in my family involved in TV and Radio.I am a professional speaker, lecturing mainly at colleges around the US and Canada -- and I have a background teaching public speaking as well. I hope to be speaking at a number of ghost/ghost hunting conferences soon.I have been a Psychic Entertainer/mentalist for over 10 years (and a magician before that). I perform my particular brand of Psychic Entertainment that hits the Sense of Humor for private parties (all sorts, from holiday to birthday/anniversary to bachelorette parties), corporate events, schools, colleges and occasional public venues.I am an avid science fiction and comic book reader (DC Comics, mainly), and pick up the occasional mystery. Love movies (and have even consulted with the occasional screenwriter and producer) and television (done consulting there as well). My newest passion is for good chocolate. I've learned enough that my publisher is having me do a book (out in 2007), and I'm now offering chocolate tasting presentations. For my full bio, go to www.mindreader.com/loyd.htm

My Interests

Psychic phenomena and experiences / Parapsychology, psychic entertainment, magic, comic books, TV, film, science fiction, supernatural folklore, old time radio, food, wine, and chocolate ... chocolate ... chocolate!

I'd like to meet:

Always interested in connecting with folks with a healthy interest in psychic phenomena, in comic books, science fiction, movies and TV...

Music:

Pretty eclectic: I love Jazz, R&B, and a various Rock groups/artists.Not music, but I listen to loads of old time radio shows (detective and comedy, mainly).

Movies:

My favorite movie series are THE THIN MAN movies, STAR WARS (the original trilogy), ARMY OF DARKNESS (one of my all time favorites), swashbuckling movies like CAPTAIN BLOOD, THE SEA HAWK, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD, any Zorro film and SWASHBUCKLER, science fiction films including FORBIDDEN PLANET, STAR TREK II: WRATH OF KHAN, and THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (the original), and comedies such as YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, THE WRONG GUY, BLAZING SADDLES, STRIPES, GALAXY QUEST and of course GHOSTBUSTERS!

Television:

I love good sci-fi TV, good sitcoms and other oddball stuff. These days I watch TORCHWOOD, DOCTOR WHO, SMALLVILLE, HEROES, LOST, PSYCH, MONK, THE BIG BANG THEORY, TWO AND A HALF MEN, 30 ROCK, and STARGATE: ATLANTIS. Of course, there's always THE SIMPSONS (and occasionally SOUTH PARK), and other cartoons (like THE BATMAN and LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES).Most important, though is THE DAILY SHOW (and THE COLBERT REPORT often). Cannot miss their take on the news.

Books:

Besides the more professional literature (in and around Parapsychology), I read a lot of fiction, mainly sci fi and mystery. I read many series novels relating to Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who and Stargate, and assorted other sci fi novels. As for mysteries, I like psychic-themed detective novels, as well as novels by authors like Aaron Elkins, Max Allan Collins, Stuart Kaminsky (the Toby Peters novels), Victoria Laurie, Martha Lawrence, and a few others. And of course, comic books (mainly DC and Dynamite) and graphic novels. Love reading old pulp stories (The Shadow and Doc Savage).

My Blog

A response to all the "Love"

This is a long one, and I have a bit more for a later date.     Okay, so my last blog was "controversial": critical of an episode of GHOST HUNTERS, supportive of a place that I've worked wit...

A Visit Does Not an Investigation Make

I just got finished watching tonight's episode of GHOST HUNTERS on SciFi Channel. The second half of the episode was their "investigation" of the Moss Beach Distillery, and her long-time apparition, m...

The Appearance of Apparitions

Things That Go Bump in the Day...

Turn on most ghost hunting shows produced over the last 10 years or so, and you can expect to see the ghost hunters running around in the dark, portrayed via nightshot camera work. Yes, it looks cool....
