After more than 2 years of delighting the people of Perth with their unique soul/roots/lounge stylings, The Qwirk are finally calling it quits.. and launching their debut EP!
The band recorded 10 tracks in keys/sax player Gus' Fremantle home in mid 2007. With the mixing and mastering genius of James Hewgill, this has been distilled into 3 rare and delightful tracks. The CD will be for sale only at the gig.
Hailing from Fremantle, the band return there for their final hurrah, playing at the gorgeous Little Creatures Loft. This delightful venue is located next to Little Creatures brewery, in the redeveloped property that was formerly the Harbourside.
With support on the night from the sweet and soulful Freya Hanly, and the electro dirty jazz talents of Playdoe. Entry is free! Come and see The Qwirk do their thing one last time. Hope you can make it. :D
Formed in November of 2005 soul/roots/lounge act The Qwirk began developing its sound in a renovated train carriage in a Fremantle backyard. The band has a diverse repertoire of original songs that range from slow and sultry to upbeat and hip shaking.
In July 2007 the band spent 4 days recording at sax and keys player Gus' studio in Fremantle. They plan to released their EP in February 2008.
The Qwirk has diverse influences including Fat Freddy's Drop, Ben Harper, Dave Mathews, Maceo Parker, Sharon Jones, The Black Keys, and Cindy Blackman (drums). They all like to boogie to the sounds of Aussie acts The Roast, Dave Mann Collective, The Cat Empire, The Bamboos, and True Live. Big ups!
The band has played various venues around Perth and greater WA. Some highlights have included playing the Sunshine Festival in Geraldton in October of 2006, and Mullalyup Gallery fundraiser for Yaragadee Aquifer In April 2007. Thanks for stopping by. If you like what you hear ... nice one!
