About Me

NOTICE: If you want me to add you, you need to SEND ME A MESSAGE FIRST. If I don't hear from you, and I can't recognize your face, I won't be able to add you. Bots n' all that. Pip, pip, you understand, don't you?
CURRENTLY: I'm the Arts & Entertainment reporter for the Lawton Constitution of Lawton, Oklahoma. Know about something that's happening on my beat? Lemme know!
They take it already upon their salvation, that though I be but Prince of Wales, yet I am the king of courtesy; and tell me flatly I am no proud Jack, like Falstaff, but a corinthian, a lad of mettle, a good boy,--by the Lord, so they call me;--and, when I am King of England, I shall command all the good lads in Eastcheap.
Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.
“I am Odysseus son of Laertes, known before all men for the study of crafty designs, and my fame goes up to the heavens."
-- The Odyssey,
Book Nine, lines 19-20
All energy flows according to the whims of the Great Magnet. What a fool I was to deny him.
-- Hunter S. Thompson
Worth dying for.
Worth killing for.
Worth going to hell for.
Amen.
-- Marv, Sin City
Men give me credit for some genius. All the genius I have is this. When I have a subject in mind, I study it profoundly. Day and night it is before me. My mind becomes pervaded with it. The effort which I have made is what people are pleased to call the fruit of genius. It is the fruit of labor and thought.
-- Alexander Hamilton
For where is the man, that has incontestable evidence of the truth of all that he holds, or of the falshood of all he condemns; or can say, that he has examined, to the bottom, all his own, or other men’s opinions?
-- John Locke
First principles, Clarice. Simplicity. Read Marcus Aurelius. Of each particular thing, ask: "What is it in itself, what is its nature?"
-- Silence ofThe Lambs
How charming is divine philosophy!
Not harsh, and crabbed, as full fools suppose,
But musical as is Apollo's lute,
And a perpetual feast of nectar'd sweets,
Where no crude surfeit reigns.
- John Milton, Mask of Comus (l. 476)
O philosophy, life's guide! O searcher-out of virtue and expeller of vices! What could we and every age of men have been without thee? Thou hast produced cities; thou hast called men scattered about into the social enjoyment of life.
-- Cicero, "Tuscan Disputations"
The birds and bees
With all of their vast
Amorous past
Gaze at the human race
Aghast!
-- Lerner & Loewe, "The Lusty Month of May"
So he decreed, in words succinct,
That all who flirted, leered or winked
(Unless connubially linked),
Should forthwith be beheaded...
And I expect you'll all agree
That he was right to so decree.
And I am right,
And you are right,
And all is right as right can be!
-- "Our great Mikado, virtuous man,"
Pish-Tush, The Mikado, Gilbert & Sullivan
Now, as I understand it, the bards were feared. They were respected, but more than that they were feared. If you were just some magician, if you'd pissed off some witch, then what's she gonna do, she's gonna put a curse on you, and what's gonna happen? Your hens are gonna lay funny, your milk's gonna go sour, maybe one of your kids is gonna get a hare-lip or something like that – no big deal. You piss off a bard, and forget about putting a curse on you, he might put a satire on you. And if he was a skillful bard, he puts a satire on you, it destroys you in the eyes of your community, it shows you up as ridiculous, lame, pathetic, worthless, in the eyes of your community, in the eyes of your family, in the eyes of your children, in the eyes of yourself, and if it's a particularly good bard, and he's written a particularly good satire, then three hundred years after, you're dead, people are still gonna be laughing, at what a twat you were.
-- Alan Moore, "The Craft"
