Wanaku & SUNplugd

Sweet Afrikan Kontry Muziki

About Me

Wanaku draws inspiration from indigenous/tribal/aboriginal music.Bio:Wanaku is originally from the British Cameroons, West Africa. He is a descendant of Kom, a Kingdom tribe, perched on the grass fields of the Adamawa hills. In a region with several tribes, Wanaku was exposed to multi-cultural traditions through competitive live music, dance and arts festivals.Looking beyond the release of "AfrikanGuitarStrophy", Wanaku hopes to set up an ArtistHelp organization that would help aboriginal creative artists to streamline their projects and make them sustainable in the long term.Building on that, he dreams of starting music schools in tribal areas to help mirror the local traditions and also help young people to develop an interest in the preservation of the oral and musical traditions of our ancestors. Youth choral groups like "The Shining Teeth Boyz'nGirlz Choir of Ibalikumato" would have as their mission: to perform and preserve original tribal stories/songs.Artist's Statement: Drawing on a culturally rich past and passionate vision for the future, Wanaku lives in the moment. "The show must go on".Recent Works: AfrikaWanda (1991) Save Afrika (2000). AfrikanGuitarStrophy (2006)
