Separate Energy

Formed in 1981, Separate Energy gigged extensively around the UK club and festival circuit and collected an impressive following in a very short space of time. They were called ‘an innovative solid rock trio’, and their combined input produced a ‘unique blend of spirited high class rock-funk-fusion’. Within the first year of their formation, they appeared at the last great Stonehenge festival with Hawkwind and some video footage of this is available.John Simms hailed from legendary heavyweight innovators Clear Blue Sky and has graced many other bands. (www.clearbluesky.co.uk) John has a world-wide fan base.Ian McDonald was a BBC sound engineer before joining a host of bands including Furniture and presently Klaus Bohling’s Elektrum (myspace/Elektrum - Klaus hails from the cult band Hurdy Gurdy and Secret Oyster and is a famous guitarist in his native Denmark).Paul Gibbs started as a vocalist, then all discovered his awesome talent as a drummer. He featured in many bands including The Wild Angels. Paul is currently spearheading an exciting new radio project namely RiverGibbs FM radio (www.rivergibbsfm.com)Whilst appearing at The Marquee club in London, Ian & John were headhunted by Ginger Baker’s management and were recruited for many European tours.The band are no longer together and this page has been created for fans, collectors and all you lovers of good quality rock music.
