With our appetites whetted nicely by the 12" series, Mikkel Metal presents the full length version of 'Peaks and troughs' featuring some strong performances from his vocal spar and muse Paul St Hilaire. The teflon coated dub of 'Jeman' initiates proceedings with Paul St Hilaire providing an intimate accompaniement. 'Bodium' shifts up half a gear with a solid sub driven dub house groove hinging on dubstepped snares before 'Newson five' introduces rougher textures balanced by some lush spherical scaping. Recent single 'Frico' slips the set into a wicked M5 alike groove and the shocking spacial awareness of 'Stephan' will provide some real production treats for the keener listeners. The cracked emotion of St Hilaire's delivery on 'Visions of Life' benefits from some crafty harmonic manipulations making for a superiorly sinister and killer composition, and it would be safe to say the best is saved for last with 'Get Over' bleeding naturally into 'Peaks and troughs' to deposit us at the end with a comforting dub house bump. This is probably one of the most highly developed and thoroughly engaging dub tech albums we've heard in a long time, and the vocals from Paul St. Hilaire really lend this a gravitas all of it's own.

The latest installment of Mikkel Metal's 'Peaks and Troughs' series hooks up with the Dub Tech producers vocalist-of-choice Paul St. Hilaire for the mellow mover 'Get Over' with an ace skankerers riddim featuring some lush sound scaping similar to Vladislav Delay's spacious atmospheres, while 'Frico' is modelled for the dub house floors with a powerful sub driven bassline and a mean jack 'n skank motion. The Pole remix of 'Frico' on the flip is up the producer's usual high standards with a pristine dub-tech flex crafted for the dancefloor. Comes on lush blue vinyl for the heads.

Danish dub tech imprint Echocord return with a very promising new series from Mikkel Metal, featuring fresh material from their main man alongside a few well selected reversions from a few friends and like minded producers. Peaks and Troughs Part1/3 kicks off where Rhythm and Sound ended up a few years back with a superb collaboration between Metal and Paul St. Hilaire aka Tikiman, skanking out deep styles on 'Jeman', before 'Lumever' switches into a gritty dub-tech house mode kinda like a dirtier version of the Scion Versions recent productions with noisy swarms of sound cut around a bass ridden dub house rhythm. The best moment here is Cassy's remix on the flip, dropping her signature vocals for a tougher and trackier techno house version of 'Lumever', needless to say it's chuffin great and recommended.
