Les Oeufs

The awesome foursome!

About Me

Bonjour, nous sommes les oeufs...
You might not have heard of Les Oeufs yet but there is a good chance you will very soon. The word on the street is that Kate Nash, Foals, Nizlopi, Palladium and Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. have all cracked open this tasty treat to discover the upbeat, punk-rock folk riddled sound of Les Oeufs. If that’s not enough they’ve already got a cracking year planned ahead with a tour of the south in the summer and the potential release of an EP – incubation period is over these guys are hatched and ready to fly sky high.
In an industry overwhelmed with indie acts all fiercely fighting for the top spot, Les Oeufs step up-to-the-plate to offer something quite unique. As frontman Jonah Maddox explains: “We take our music but not ourselves too seriously. All we want to do is make people dance and occasionally encourage thought and empathy.”
In early 2007 the guys that make up the awesome foursome were all residing in bohemian Brighton, Jonah Maddox (Vocals, Guitar) was serenading the folks of the city gigging from bar to bar, whilst John Anthony (Guitar), David Sharpe (Drums), Laurance Bridge (Bass) were making funky beats in a dance band known as Electric Tribal Wondersquad.
Before long their combined creativity sparked the creation of Les Oeufs and by March 2007 they had well and truly cracked it. And what of their name? With a hint of self-confessed pretension Maddox adds: “There are lots of eggy people in Brighton, it’s a nod to the eggs of the world.”
As a collective their musical expertise puts many other bands to shame. Just in case you’re wondering? That’s a whopping four K’s in Kerrang for Mr Maddox, as well as a history of extensive touring throughout the UK with his previous signed punk-band Fellthru.
Their originality both lyrically and musically is perhaps due to their diverse range of influences which spurts from genres including folk, reggae, punk and rock, branching into legendary names such as Billy Bragg, The Clash, The Beatles, Levellers, Bigwig, 88 Fingers Louie, Prodigy, The Kooks and Bloc Party. And there’s more - the punk riddled foursome idols also include Joe Strummer, Simon Friend, Bob Marley, Andy Rourke, Guy Pratt, Mike Portnoy, Al Anderson and Pete Townshend to name but a few. And that’s not all, social networking site MySpace has propelled the sound of Les Oeufs across the globe and the guys are now garnering fans from as far away as the U.S.A.

Sounds Like: "Commercial, acendant power indie..." - NME
"The awesome foursome from Brighton have drawn together a mix of punk, dance, indie and folk to produce a homegrown sound that mixed acoustic with electric and pace with mellowed mood. Listening to Les oeufs is like standing next to a log fire, all that earthy warmth and crackling vigour. Their music is full of treble and harmony, punchy and dynamic for vocalist Jonah to wail away with natural sincerity. Bonus points also go to the band for an ode to Brighton: ‘I’m so glad I’ve ended up by the sea. I can lose myself in the waves, instead of the TV...’ "
