Hello To All Bands,
Our Rock Brighton account has become so busy we have had to make a new Myspace account just for you Brighton Bands/Artists.
Hopefully this will make it easier for us to book you dates and make it easier for you to see what dates are available or to see if there are any cancellations or open slots.
If you are not on our database or you need to be refreshed on how we book gigs please read the following rules...
We have had so many bands cancel last minute without warning resulting in us not having time for us to replace them with other bands from our database. Cancellations end up costing promoters, venues and all involved money so from 2008 we are being forced to be alot harder on bands that either don't put effort in to the gig i.e. self promotion or not pulling a good number crowd.
2008 WARNING!!) If you are looking for dates we are enforcing a new warning to cover Rock Brighton and all the venues we deal with. We will be monitoring the number of people coming to see individual bands. If your band fails to pull 15 people or more you will be removed from the Rock Brighton database and will not be asked to return. To make all gigs successful everyone involved needs to put as much effort in as possible and not rely on Rock Brighton's name to do all the work. We thank all the bands in 2007 that helped us build the Rock Brighton reputation. Those gigs where why we do what we do but there are a majority or bands that not only let us down but let themselves down by playing in front of a reduced crowd due to no self promotion or practice.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING RULES VERY CAREFULLY!! If any band breaks any of the rules it will result in a yellow mark to your band's name (including cancellations), two cancellations or rule breaking will result in a red mark and NO future bookings with any associated event/gigs held by Rock Brighton. Any serious rule breakage will result in your band details being passed around other promoters and event organisers in the south coast area.
Rule 1) AGE LIMITS : All Rock Brighton gigs are OVER 18s events unless stated. No underaged band members or guests of the bands will be allowed into the venue after the time of 7:30pm. Proof of age WILL be required.
Rule 2) BAND REWARDS : Each gig we run as a different reward i.e. the choice of a free guest list, advance ticket sales, door split etc. Please ask which deal you will receive when you request a date. TOURING BANDS please make sure you are clear with what option your bands will be getting before you leave for the gig. Bands dont just get paid on the night so please don't embarrass yourselves by asking for money at the end of the night as we simply don't make any!
Rule 3) CANCELLING GIGS : If you wish to cancel a booked gig please try to fill the slot with another good local band before you pull out as this could result in Rock Brighton losing money and you receiving a yellow mark if the booking is very close to the date given. If have any problems please give us as much notice as possible and don't hesitate to get in touch as we are here to help where ever we can. If you don't let us know about any such problems or if you abuse the booking rules this would be stopping other bands who have been waiting for dates!
Rule 4) VENUE LOAD IN TIMES : Load-in for equipment is at 5:00pm sharp. If you are supplying the drum kit can you please make sure this arrives on time as it will delay soundchecks and maybe result in opening late. Sound checks start at 5:30pm and will be checked in reverse order to line-up. All bands are expected to arrive at this time due to the equipment share (Some venues do allow equipment to be left over night but please note that anything left at the pub/club is not insured under the venue's insurance policy and therefore WILL BE LEFT AT YOUR OWN RISK!).
Rule 5) EQUIPMENT SHARE : All bands booked are expected to supply at least one piece of equipment for other bands to share (could other bands sharing the kit please bring breakables, i.e. your own cymbals, snare and kick pedals).
As We will be short staffed for a few months Littleman will be running most of the events single-handed. To help this the headline band will be given all the details of each band to arrange equipment share. If there is a problem that can't be solved please contact Littleman on 07979 221853 and confirm full backline prior to 48 hours before the gig.
Rule 6) VENUE RULES : Every venue has different rules so please ask before you bring alcohol, or hand out any promotional flyers or merchandise in the club/pub (Most self promotional flyers and business cards are generally ok, but some venues have a problem with other club/pub nights being promoted at their venues - if in doubt, please ask.)
Rule 7) DONT OVER BOOK : This is important! Please dont book/play another event/gig one week before or one week after your chosen Rock Brighton date, no matter how big or small the event/gig. This rule only applies to Brighton & Hove. Out of town event/gigs are acceptable but please let us know out of courtesy. Over booking to many gig in one month will lower the attendance of your fans and make a bad gig.
Rule 8) STAFF ABUSE : Anyone found shouting or giving abuse to ANY member of our Rock Brighton staff including: Sound guy, Bar Staff, Promoters or Door Staff will be asked to leave and under no circumstances will be returning for any of Rock Brighton gigs in the future.
Rule 9) RUNNING LATE : If you cannot make it to your given sound check time please make the reason why VERY clear and give enough advanced warning. Any band that doesn't make it to sound check without prior knowledge will not get a soundcheck
100% of bands that have played for us in the past that didnt make their sound check didnt not sound good at all!
Rule 10) OVER DRINKING : More of a guide line than a rule! Don't get too pissed before your set as it makes you look unprofessional and if you can't play you will be asked to leave.
Can you please make sure that all band members read or know about these rules as we have had 227 bands black listed from our database in 2007! Communication is the key to a great gig...
We print up and hand out over 100 posters and 1000 flyers for each gig plus a 5,000 mailing list emails etc but this still doesnt guarantee its going to be hugely busy so its up to the bands to put in promotional work too (If you would like flyers let us know :)
WE HOPE YOU DONT THINK THESE RULES ARE TO HARSH. THEY ARE PUT IN PLACE TO PROTECT US, THE OTHER BANDS AND THE VENUE
ALOT OF WORK GOES INTO ORGANIZING EVENTS AND EVERYONE INVOLVED WANTS TO SEE THE GIG DO WELL!!
If you are not playing on the night, then as a bonus we invite all band members that have played for us in the past in to our events/gigs for free. (Not really a rule but a thank you for supporting other local bands)
We are sorry to have to enforce such rules but over the past few months we have had so many bands take the piss that we have had no choice. If you have any queries or problems with anything prior to the event please contact us on 07979 221853 or email us at
[email protected].
