From the self-actualized revelations of "Song for Myself" to the plaintive "Runaway," Sheva exquisitely achieves a fine balance between pathos and hope. Penner strives for simplicity in the arrangements, sometimes featuring only piano and guitar accompaniment to support Sheva's breathtaking voice before veering into more rocked-out musical beds. "Classical music is what I grew up on. It's what I was trained in and it's what I know. When I write, I draw from those influences. It definitely brings a unique and simplistic quality to my songs. When I listen to a song, I listen to the melody. It doesn't matter what the genre is, if it has a great melody, then it will be memorable.
