THE FIRST LIGHT ORCHESTRA - roots reggae - PROSSIMA .. 3 Nov 2007 22:00 Cantiere Sociale Camillo Cienfuegos (K100) Campi Bisenzio, Firenze - THE FIRST LIGHT ORCHESTRA Gruppo roots reggae di Firenze nato nel 2005, composto da musicisti con vari anni di esperienza nel reggae, afro, samba, soul e funk; provenienti dal sud e dal nord dell'Italia, dai Balcani e dall'Inghilterra. Il loro suono è quello del roots reggae e del dub giamaicano degli anni Settanta, ma la direzione scelta non comporta un limite alle sperimentazioni sonore. Cantano in inglese e si presentano sul palco con pezzi propri e qualche accenno alla vasta cultura del reggae internazionale. Ultimamente hanno anche lavorato come backing band per vari cantanti reggae e raggamuffin, tra i quali anche il noto singjay tarantino Fido Guido e la poetessa sudafricana Natalia Molebatsi. Durante l'estate del 2006 accompagnano i Tidal Waves nel loro secondo tour italiano, aprendo numerosi concerti per questo potente gruppo reggae sudafricano. All'inizio del 2007 esce il loro brano "Soul Brutalization" sulla compilation "Un Cafesito Mami", un'iniziativa di appoggio alle popolazioni indigene del Chiapas. Attualmente, il gruppo divide il proprio tempo fra il palco e lo studio, dove lavorano assiduamente sul loro album d'esordio. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- THE FIRST LIGHT ORCHESTRA is a roots reggae and dub band based in Florence, Italy. The group is composed of musicians who come from various musical genres (reggae, afro, samba, soul, funk) and from different parts of the continent – northern and southern Italy, the Balkans and the United Kingdom. Formed in 2005, the group’s sounds are drawn mainly from the Jamaican and British roots and dub of the Seventies. However, this does not in any way limit the musicians or keep them from experimenting and scouting into other sonic landscapes. Lately they have also worked as a backing band for Fido Guido, a versatile singjay from the southern Italian city of Taranto, and the South African poet Natalia Molebatsi. During the summer of 2006, the group was the opening act on numerous occasions for the powerful South African reggae band Tidal Waves, who were on their second Italian tour. At the beginning of 2007 their song "Soul Brutalization" came out on the pro-Chiapas compilation "Un Cafesito Mami". Currently, The First Light Orchestra are spending their time both on stage and in their analog studio, where they are working hard on the debut album.
