ECCENTRIC, RECLUSIVE, ARTIST, WRITER, WHACKO WHO WORHSHIPS AT THE ALTAR OF ABSURDITY

About Me

Born in the 50's, so yes, I'm old by some measures but I consider myself young. Longtime Texan who transitioned to the desert Southwest. Former college teacher. Artist. Apprenticed for 5 years with a great artist who taught me technique, philosophy, and how to survive the art game. Now, happily doing nothing of major substance besides living my life and creating. I am a misfit and have always been. I figure that, now that I am in my 50's I have earned the right to my eccentricities. My great passions are collecting vintage clothing, writing, art, metaphysics, world events (I'm a boring old news junkie) and music (though I'm musicially inept).I've led an interesting, if not somewhat extravagant life and have lived to tell many tales. Although born in rural East Texas, I have always had an urban heart and now enjoy my urban oasis and the luxury of being me without every busybody in town knowing what I'm wearing, thinking, or doing. In my life, I've been a nerdy school girl, a girl trained to be a debutante and wife of a rich man, a rebellious hippie, a political agitator, a musician/songwriter's longtime woman, an artist who apprenticed with a great painter and lived a full life with him, the wife of Mr. Boring when going through my phase of compromise, a college professor, and the wife of a quirky Larry Davidesque character. I am not elitist or snobby but I can be petty (one of my faults), and I can be lazy. I am sometimes sarcastic to a fault.(I blame that on my late dad). I have a skewed view of the world and love it's absurdities. Beleive me, this appreciation of the absurd has saved my sanity from time to time. I do not plan to settle into middle age or old age or any age. I am who I am and will always evolve and change. I will not deny my age but I will keep my mind and body as active and alive as possible. I'm a mystic rather than a believer in any one religion. Everyone has to find peace their own way and no one way is THE WAY. I've been somewhat psychic my entire life and have had some strange experiences. I've also lived a life full of hilarity. I've laughed hard, I've loved deeply, I've sometimes made a bit of a difference, I've hurt so badly that I thought I'd break, and I've teetered on the edge a time or two. I don't think you can define me by any social or economic class. I can be found shopping at Saks wearing threadbare jeans and a tee shirt or at Goodwill. I'm generally happier at Goodwill. I don't like stereotypes and don't intend to become one. I enjoy the fact that I have certain mysteries in my life and I like to hint at them.I have many sides and only a handful of people know all those sides. I'm shy, in person, unless you know me well. Then, you will find I'm anything but shy. I still have a southern accent which has mixed with a southern California accent to form an odd way of speaking. I lisp when I'm nervous and I swear like a sailor. I'm a study in contradictions, but I have a good heart and a wild passionate identification with the misfits and underdogs. Lastly, I am who I am. And, nothing can change that. I'm not easy to know but I welcome friendship. And, once you are my friend, I'll be your defender.map!

.. width="425" height="350" .... I WORSHIP AT THE FEET OF LITTLE EDIE BEALE. SHE IS WAS THE QUEEN OF ECCENTRICS. LONG MAY SHE DANCE WHEREVER SHE MAY BE IN THE GALAXY

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who is creative, questioning, kind, bizarre, witty, informed or amusing. I don't like players or phonies. I like those who champion the underdog and those who can think for themselves. I enjoy people with a quick wit and mind and who aren't intimidated by a woman with opinions. I like most people and, unless you like to hurt people for the hell of it, or are a bully or bigot, I'll probably like you.At a fantasty dinner party I would have (both living and dead) Robert Kennedy, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Pope John Paul II, Princess Diana, Wallis Simpson, W.E.B. DuBois, Martin Luther King, Cesar Chavez, Bono, Sir Richard Branson, The Dali Lama, Bill Clinton, Rene Magritte, Ivan Albright, Edward Hopper, all the mystics and mediums who are/were real, Waylon Jenniings, Willie Nelson, Billy Joe Shaver, and Mohammed Ali. I'm sure there are lots more, including my parents, my mother-in-law and father-in-law and my husband. If you are trying to sell something, looking for a quick hook up or .. romance or spewing hatred, don't bother to ask to be my friend. All others are welcome. .. width="425" height="350" .... IT DOESN'T GET BETTER THAN THIS: TWO GREAT MUSICIANS AND A GREAT SONG.... MY DEFINITION OF HEAVEN .. width="425" height="350" .... This was filmed for Austin City Limits in the 70's. I am sitting behing and to the side of the drums (on Willie's right) You can pick me out because I'm out of beat with the music and acting like the 20 something geeky spazz that I was. I was amazed when I found this snippet on youtube.

Music:

I'm all over the map. I love the blues above all else. Growing up in the South I was snuck into seedy blues bars as a teenager and heard some of the great old bluesmen sing. I have a nostalgia for my hippie dippy favorites from the 60s and 70s, I don't understand opera, but love it. I love conjunto and flamenco guitars...music with duende. I also love female lounge singers, Soul, some of the newer stuff that I don't even know the name for, and, having been in Austin at the birth of the whole early 70's Austin scene, Willie will always be my poet laureate along with Billy Joe Shaver.

Movies:

I love Indie films: "Requiem for a Dream", "Crumb", anything by the Cohen Brothers or the Mayles Brothers (I'm addicted to "Grey Gardens". I also like the occassional blockbuster and epic and love old 30's and 40s's movies and film noir.

Television:

I watch very little tv (really, I'm telling the truth) I do watch Bravo, A and E, HGTV, HBO, old reruns on Nick at Night and TVLand, and, cable news, and, in pinch I'll watch infomercials (The "Knife Show " is a hoot) .. width="425" height="350" .... And, despite the fact that I now live in the desert southwest, my heart will always belong in Texas.

Books:

I have been reading since the age 4 when I read "Henny Penny and Chicken Little"..."the sky is falling...the sky is falling.." I prefer nonfiction which ranges from metaphysics, history, to biography and I love trashy Hollywood bios as well. I'm the kind of person who has a book of poetry in one hand and a tabloid in the other. HAVE YOU EVER NOTICED HOW RELIGIOUS FIGURES SEEM TO SHOW UP IN THE MOST UNLIKELY PLACES? A SAMPLING OF WHAT PEOPLE THINK THEY SEE (PERSONALLY, I DON'T SEE IT)

Heroes:

I'm gunshy about naming heroes because they all die on me. So, I'll say that my heroes are those brave people who fight each day to stay alive and sane. And those who champion injustice and fight against war. Ghandi Martin Luther King Cesar Chavez Robert Kennedy Frida Kahlo Georgia O'Keefe Pope John Paul II Mother Theresa Ann Richards Micky Leland My Mom and Dad W.E.B. Dubois Emma Goldman Yvgeny Yevtushenko Winston Churchill The Yaqui Man who appeared to me Father Bill Petrie of the Damien Foundation Che Guevara Abbie Hoffman Judge William Wayne Justice Thurgood MarshallJacqueline Kennedy OnassisMY HEROES AMONG MANY OTHERS:
