Music has always been the center of Trinidadian native, Julian Cambridge's life. As a child in Port of Spain, he began his fascination with drums and rhythm. He was influenced by the music of the day, from rock and roll to Soul, Reggae, and Calypso.Julian's desire eventually lead him to the U. S., where he continued his education and musical training at Northern Virginia Community College and Dale Music School. His island roots style drumming has influenced many players. His rhythms have affected and infected many styles from punk to rock to Reggae and Soca.Julian's versatility has lead to many musical assocations with some of the industries top artists and players. The artists Julian has played drums for include: The Itals, Ras Michael, Sister Carol, Judy Mowatt, Mikey Dread, Carl Molcolm, Casper and the 602 Band, Englishman, Sanches, Cannon and the Lion of Judah, Apostle and Midnight.Upon moving to Washing D.C., Julian worked with the Bad Brains and toured nationally. Next, he formed his own Reggae band, The Lion Hearts, which afforded Julian the opportunity to travel and entertain audiences throughout the U.S.A later collaboration with Michael Enkrumah Henry, (Ras Michael's son), resulted in an early alternative rock bank of the same name. The Soup Band, (Songs of Unique Positivity), Julian's next incarnation, toured for many years, bringing its unique brand of Reggae to audiences across the country. Next Julian became the driving force behind his own alternative band, Tom Jonz and The Too Unusual Crew, entertaining as lyricist and lead vocalist, incorporating reggae, rock and roll and soca.Julian represents a musical chameleon, changing and creating styles to convey his many musical ideas. Gathering musicians of all disciplines, Julian Cambridge sets out once again to stir the musical pot.
