Mark Wilmott began his musical journey through an old Italian acoustic guitar that was lying around the house where he spent his child hood days! ‘’I did ask for a drum kit, as I was always sat listening to tunes hitting Chinese chopsticks on the chair. But that never evolved’’ and so he decided to learn the acoustic guitar which was owned by his dad as it was gathering dust!‘’The great story about the guitar is that it has probably seen a lot and has a great history to it, my gran bought this guitar for my dad one day out of the blue, I don’t think he’d even asked for one. And at the time my gran would rush around and as she collected the guitar from the shop in Ardwick Green (Home of the Apollo) she was run over on one of the main streets. She just wanted to get back to surprise my dad, before he got home from school, luckily my gran was fine! And she is still fighting fit today at 95â€Mark’s early influences where The Kinks, The Beach Boys, Bee Gee’s and Dylan. ‘’ When we went on holiday in the summer time we could never afford to go to Spain, so we would travel long distance to places like Wales or Cornwall. And one day at a service station my dad bought The Kinks greatest hits for the journey and by the time I got home I knew all the tunes and music was in my blood!‘’I started to learn the guitar as a religion and my friends would be out doing other things, I would buy guitar books of bands from the past and friends would laugh they couldn’t understand why I was into this so much, but who’s laughing now!’’Over time Mark learnt loads of tunes was obsessed with bands on MTV, watched live gigs of The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Glastonbury and Woodstock, after playing bass for a few bands and generally jamming with like minded musicians The Deeds where formed and even though the band split like a military spitfire that had been shot down, Mark built his musicianship skills, playing a lot of gigs and learning to perform and write better lyrics.‘’After the band split up I learnt a lot in that short year we where together and took time to decide on what I wanted to do, over time I wrote new tunes and went and hit the acoustic scene more to see how my songs would go down, and luckily at most of the gigs the response and feedback has been great’’!And so here he his today still hitting the acoustic nights, writing and working on new tunes with a drummer, and so everything seems to be on the up again!!For band booking & press info please contact (
