Manifesto (soon to be called something else…possibly) were born in January of 2008 after its original members, Mark and Matthew, met on a dating website for musicians. After rehearsing Mark’s wonderful songs for a couple of months at an unspecified location in Stockport, the two intrepid and quite talented musicians hit the Manchester gigging scene as a two-piece. During this period they played all the usual haunts: Night and Day, Moho Live etc. It was around this time that Dan, the pianist, joined the band. I have never seen the keyboard played with such flair before (well not first hand anyway); he brought further quality to the sound and can be heard on our two demo tracks “nothing left for me to do†and “stuck in the mudâ€, which he produced, as if he wasn’t showing off enough already. Unfortunately Dan had to retire from service; Manifesto entered a period of hibernation which lasted, appropriately, right through the summer drinking season. Around November, when the wind, in all its violence, was blowing grit in our eyes, and the rain, in bad humour, was drenching us to the bone, a ray of light appeared in Mark’s mail box: A message from Matt Simms. Matt (Guitar) and his two friends Michael (Guitars, amps and pedals amongst other paraphernalia) and another Matt (piano) wanted to join up with us to make music (and I mean that in the non-erotic sense). After meeting in a pub in picturesque Macclesfield, and discovering that we got on pretty well, we made plans to meet up and jam sometime around the turn of the year. And so the ARSE (Altrincham Rehearsal Studio Enterprise) sessions began. So far things are going brilliantly. Matt (piano) has, regrettably, had to leave the band, but we have some new, amazing tunes for your ears which can be heard over the next couple of months around various Manchester venues (check out the gigs list). Following this we plan to record a couple of new tunes at Vibe Studios with the help of Mr Coogan of Mock Turtles fame. Things are looking up Caruthers. Finally, a big thanks to Dave Lilley, our session bassist, who provides outstanding musicianship, fabulous wit, and an endless stream of excellent advice.Copy this code to your website to display this banner!
