About Me

the comsat angels jive records era in 83 the sheffield band went into jives battery studios in london where they produced the explorative poprock album 'land' of which contains a new version of the bands previous chart hit ' independence day'. in between the bands touring schedule they then began work on the bands follow up album 'seven day weekend' an inovative AOR poprock album on which features the acclaimed singer stevie lange on the song 'day one' which was released as the first single from the album. other singles & re-mixes were released from the above two albums including ' you move me' & 'new heart & hand'of which were well recieved by the public & the music industry. in particular, the 'land' singles 'alicia' & 'independence day' both reached into the upper climbs of the uk charts. in this time the singer guitarist ian cunningham was recruited into the band to replace the previous extra guitarist paul robertson wherby the band canned another live recording at the BBC broadcasting house studios in london which appeared on a radio 1 saturday night live broadcast featuring live performances of several songs from the bands ' seven day weekend album'.at around this time the band also recorded a cover version of a rolling stones song 'citadel' of which was released as a b-side on one of the bands jive tour of europe with debut concerts at the UCLA & the crystal palace bowl charity concert in london in which the band debued to a crowd of 10,000 fans. this was followed by a sell-out concert at the london marquee club & following that a tour across europe including holland norway & italy. the tour also included a live recording for dutch radio at the hilvershum studios in which the band performed unplugged acoustic versions of their songs including citadel & others. the tour was rounded off with another live session for radio hallam in sheffield on which the band performed unplugged versions of their songs including ' carried away' & ' big wave'. the jive era bandmembers were stephen fellows on guitar & vocal. andy peake on keyboards & vocal. kevin bacon on bass guitar. mick glaishier on drums. extra bandmembers were paul robertson on guitar. ian cunningham on guitar & vocal. in 2002 the band released an expanded cd version of the 'seven day weekend' album on the renascent record label on which includes the cover version of the rolling stones song 'citadel' with ian cunningham on the guitar. the band have also released a cd album of the BBC radio sessions, a co-BBC/renanscent records release, on which contains re-mixes of the bands 80s BBc radio sessions including powerful live performances of the bands songs ' high tide' 'you move me' plus the rolling stones song 'citadel'. it is all in all a powerfull & energetic example of the band performing at its very best & at the height of its commercial success in the music business. although this is a band which never quite achieved all of the success it deserved its clear that the bands music was ahead of its time in a lot of ways & it has influenced a lot of other bands & artists to-date.
