Em and Jem

Hi! We're Emilie and Jemima!
We're both about 8 months old and kicking back, living the great life of some pampered pet rats.
Our coats are white with beautiful black hoods. We have shiny black eyes and long tails. When we were babies we met our friends Andie and Anna who kindly rescued us from a dirty ass pet shop where we were probably going to end up as snake food. They took us home and raised us lovingly with lots of corn kernels and plenty of cuddles. It was at that home that we met Michael - who loves us dearly (but pretends he doesn't) and Jarrah who said he doesn't really like pets (but secretly chatted with us when no-one else was looking! p.s. thanks for the strassburg Jarrah - it was very tasty). A few weeks ago we moved in with our new friends Luba and Chris while Michael and Anna got it together and moved house.
This journal is mainly for Andie because she had to move back home to Perth(a very long rat journey away)and that means she can't pat us anymore. We're a bit sad to not see her anymore and the word is that she misses us too. So our friend Anna made us this page (we're a bit clumsy on the keyboard) and now Andie can see how we're doing and write us messages and stuff - and anyone else who'd like to can join in as well!!

You may notice our friend Anna spelt my name wrong on our web address - that's because she's an idiot sometimes. And also because we're easier to find like that - (Emily is a much more popular spelling in Australia). So there you go. My name means "industrious and eager" in Latin which is definately me all over. I'm the kinda rat who's into anything and everything, although I have my shy moments too. My friend Andie named me and I like it very much- Cheers, Andie!
I'm pretty much black and white in colouring - see my beautiful stripe under my chin?? (i'm very modest as you can tell)
Well enough about me, now here's my sister, Jem (I have to introduce her to you cos she's a bit shy).
Jemima
My name means "day" in Hebrew and "dove" in Arabic. Anna gave me that name and thinks the Arabic version is very appropriate as I'm a bit quiet and peaceful like a dove. I think that's a nice way of her saying that I'm a bit of a scaredy rat.
You can also spell the beginning of my name "Gem" - like those pretty sparkly things. Yup, I'm one of those :) One last thing- My coat is a little lighter than Em's - My stripe is a little more brown than black and a little thicker on my back than Em's is. You'll also probably notice that most of the photos below are of Em - I liked to hide a lot when I was a baby but am now coming out of my shell a bit more.
The photos in this slideshow are mainly from when we were younger.
The photo of us waiting impatiently for treats (in the blue cage) is from when we were very little. It used to be where we hung out when our home was being cleaned but we need a lot more room now cos we're heaps bigger!
