There are faces spread all over the surface of this planet. Each face bears little or no resemblance to another, only faint traces of life’s pursuits and aging adventures. Each one is wrapped around a skull. Somehow all of them are stretched and primed in this exact way. There is a blue collar, underground artist named Jeremy Szuder who paints these faces, flattens them onto canvas, retextures, and morphs them to fit his own personal vices, inner voices, burdens, and passions. He makes art like a chef getting ready to battle with hundreds of mouths. “I’m making these with no haste. I want them to look beautiful. I want people to consume them as if it were their last meals.†And so it is, he feeds us with dead robots, old-time guitar pickers, twisted professors, girls with flowing strands of breezy hair, brains growing out of hollowed suits, 45 spacers, stenciled heroes’ music, laughter, pain, and the monkeys on his back.
