Bill Evans: Musician/Artist, Asheville, NC

About Me

I am a composer and live performer. 55 yrs. young. Currently, I share in playing lead guitar in the Asheville NC band, Phuncle Sam (Dead-Centric, Improv-Americana) and sometimes accompany the fine singer and guitarist Jaimee Tomas. Lately I've been sitting in some with Steam Boat Theory.(pause) ~~.........The songs posted here are home recordings written and performed by me, the saxaphones etc. being a guitar synth, the Tibetan bowl being well, a Tibetan bowl.... I've been writing/home recording for longer than I will admit here...ok, maybe 40 yrs...~~~..,.., I've composed hundreds of experiments, and experimented with hundreds of compositions and never submitted any of it for $$ until I was recently asked to do some music for films. .. perhaps a a combination of my knowledge of the music busines, my satisfaction with the pure joy of creating music, some lack of objective self-confidence having seen countless live performances (see friends) by incredible musicians. has kept me from really venturing ino the market place. Living near NYC, I took advantage of all the great live music from Sun Ra, Pharoh Saunders or NRBQ. to Captain Beafheart, Steele Pulse or the Mighty Dianonds. Living in the NY area, I tried to see as much authentic reggae as I possibly could. .....Then of course there is Jerry Garcia, my favorite player, who gave loud electric guitar permission to be absolutely beautiful! ~~ I was at Woodstock too...long, long ago :-) ~~ music, activism, love! I continue to demonstrate and work against wars and injustice. I will always resist. I'm not REALLY a Jazz musician, you are not able to describe your own catagory, jazz has always lurked around the edges of all things music it seems, yet I'm basically a rock, folk, blues musician who plays by ear. ~~~!!~~~ I love to listen to jazz while painting! For some of my simple computer art see: pics.______________________Previously I played with the Plattsburgh NY band, Deeper Roots. members of which have gone on to play with the Ominous Seapods, Spunhuny and other projects. Since moving to Asheville from NY, I've played with String Elixer, the Unidentified Filharmonic Orchestra and now Phuncle Sam (3 & 1/2 yrs.) ~~ Going back further, I've played in many bands and was involved with musical projects of which I may write about some day. ..... . . . . .. .. .. .. .. . . . .. . . ....... Phuncle Sam newsmuch fun! We've also been doing some benefits for Katuah Earth First!~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~**Currently PS is working on lots of new original material and has studio time set for June.

Jackson was the Chief U.S. Nuremberg Tribunal Prosecutor. On August 12, 1945, Justice Jackson stated the Tribunal’s conclusions prohibiting aggressive war. “We must make clear to the Germans that the wrong for which their fallen leaders are on trial is not that they lost the war, but that they started it. And we must not allow ourselves to be drawn into a trial of the causes of the war, for our position is that no grievances or policies will justify resort to aggressive war. It is utterly renounced and condemned as an instrument of policy.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Un~gag Sibel Edmonds!

Currently, I play guitar in the Asheville NC band, Phuncle Sam (Dead-centric-improv-Americana?) I do OK I suppose, having broken two fingers on my left hand in the last ten years and feeling a bit of age at 56. Phuncle Sam calls on me to convey the 'Garcia' feel on many songs. Jerry was infinite times more fluid and articulate, my personal guitar style is similar. ** Go to www.myspace.com/phunclesam. I heard Jerry so many times, the influence going far back, my approach is just naturally similar, or 'familiar' might be a better way to put it. I played rythm guitar in most of the bands I've been in. For the last five years in Phuncle Sam, I've played a lot of lead guitar along with Stymie, our other guitarist. It has been a great learning experience..........~=~=~ .........The songs posted here are home recordings written and performed entirely by me. The saxaphones etc. are a guitar synth, the Tibetan bowl being well, a Tibetan bowl.... I've been writing/home recording for longer than I will admit here......, I've composed hundreds of experiments, and experimented with hundreds of compositions and had never exchanged any of it for $$ until I was recently asked to do music for some short films, one is posted below. Demonstrated in DC, burned draft cards etc. ~~ music, activism, peace, love and justice! I've attempted to search for peace in my life and continue to work and demonstrate against wars and injustice. I RESIST, and attempt to create something better.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I believe music can play a part in making us humans better, or I wouldn't be playing it. ~!~ I'm not a jazz musician, although jazz has always lurked around the edges of all things music it seems, yet I'm basically a rock, folk, blues musician who plays by ear. ~~~!! ~~~ I love to listen to jazz while painting!
