About Me

Grace Bradley was born September 13, 1912 in Brooklyn New York. Piano lessons started at the age of 5 and she gave her first recital by age 6. When she was 12 years old she won a scholarship to the Eastman School of Music near Rochester in New York. In school, Grace also took dancing lessons along with piano. Her grandfather wanted her to go to school in Berlin to further her music studies but a Broadway producer saw her dancing and wanted to hire her for his show. That was the end of her concert pianist career!Grace's first Broadway was Ballyhoo on December 22, 1930 at the Hammerstein Theatre. Her next Broadway appearance would be in The Third Little Show and that opened at the Music Box theatre on June 1, 1931. This show officially closed in October of 1932 after 136 performances. Soon Grace would turn to working at nightclubs and modelling when a third Broadway adventure called Strike Me Pink at the Majestic Theatre. This revue started March 4, 1933, and it was during this time that Grace was found by a Paramount talent scout who brought to Hollywood. She signed her first contract making $150 a week - a goldmine in 1933!!Through the 1930's Grace remained very busy with her acting in many different kinds of films. Some utilized her wonderful singing voice while others called upon her dancing talents. During her career, Grace worked with many famous stars like Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Dorothy Lamour, Alice Faye, Bruce Cabot, William Bendix, Fred MacMurray, Harold Lloyd and W C Fields to name a few!In May of 1937 Grace was set up on a blind date with William Boyd of Hopalong Cassidy fame and the two were married in June of 1937. Theirs was such a perfect love match they remained together until William passed away in 1972. She stood by him through the whole Hopalong craze in the late 40's and early 50's traveling the world at his side and meeting all the fans with him. They never had children of their own but considered all the children who loved Hoppy around the world to be 'theirs'.Even today Grace still does what she can to keep her husband's memory alive, at 93 she keeps a busy schedule!
