.. Crystal Beach Memories on FunnyOrDie.com ..
In 2007 Hayes Carll realized his goal of bringing a songwriter based festival to the Bolivar Peninsula on the Gulf Coast Texas. The Stingaree Music Festival provides fans of singer/songwriters an alternative to the hustle and bustle of ega festivals. “I have always wanted to do a music festival in Crystal Beach. It is where I got my start performing music. I only spent four and a half years on Bolivar but I made a lifetime of memories. There were three constants in all of them; the people, the music, and the Gulf of Mexico. My goal in throwing this festival is to bring those three together in one place and share them all with my friends.â€
Crystal Beach is a beach town on the Bolivar Peninsula, just a short ferry ride from Galveston. It is one of the last beach communities in America that hasn’t been overrun with condominiums and strip malls. The town retains an attitude and lifestyle of simpler times. Lodging options are classic Gulf Coast beach houses providing a unique festival environment.

-------------------------------Terry Allen
Santa Fe, NM
Terry Allen is irreverent, he's ironic and he doesn't hold back. He has made a career out of creating art based on how things are- not how they ought to be. Along with his friends Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Joe Ely, and Butch Hancock Allen is a standard-bearer of the Lubbock, TX, music scene. He is perhaps the most ambitious of them all, writing complex song cycles that have been performed with the help of artists ranging from Lowell George to David Byrne
Band Of Heathens
Austin, TX
The Band of Heathens formed in 2006 behind four of Austin's best young singer-songwriters: Colin Brooks, Ed Jurdi, Brian Keane, and Gordy Quist. They have developed a strong following and won Best New Band in the 2006-07 Austin Music Awards.
Bonnie Bishop
Houston, TX
In the three years that Bonnie has been on the Texas music scene she has built a solid reputation with her live shows. However, being a songwriter is a title Bonnie says she values the most. Recently she has been writing with an impressive list of songwriters including Will Kimbrough, Walt Wilkins, Tim Kreckle, Jim Lauderdale, Ray Wylie Hubbard, David Grissom, and Richard Leigh.
Hayes Carll
Houston, TX
Hayes is a singer/songwriter and festival producer. He has a new album coming out on Lost Highway a week before the festival. April promises to be a very interesting time for him
The Dedringers
New Braunfels, TX
"They write their songs with lightning and rock like they want blood". - Ray Wylie Hubbard
"When The Dedringers play the Hollywood Bowl we hope that they will let us open for them". - James Mc Murtry
The John Evans Band
Houston, TX
“It's just rock and roll.†That's what John Evans says when asked about his music. The John Evans band definitely is straight up rock and roll. A Texas mainstay for as long as anyone can remember, Evans has been a constant source for re-invention with each new musical outing he takes.
Ray Wylie Hubbard
Wimberley, TX
In the stellar company of iconic colleagues like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Doug Sahm and Jerry Jeff Walker, Ray Wylie Hubbard was an architect of the musical legacy that continues to inspire subsequent generations of up-and-coming Texas talent. When asked about his ability to continue to write compelling songs at an age when many artists are decades past their creative prime, Ray Wylie Hubbard said, “ I didn’t want to peak too soon.â€
Will Kimbrough
Nashville, TN
An astounding, in-demand guitarist (Americana Music Association Instrumentalist of the Year), a producer, and creator of timeless songs in both pop motifs and dusty Americana, Will Kimbrough is slowly, but surely, becoming a household word. He possesses the soaring pop strengths of Neil Finn, the unapologetic howl of Lennon and the gritty punch of Alex Chilton.
Travis Linville
Chickashea OK
Travis Linville has become a name synonymous with okie music. His dazzling instrumental virtuosity and simple, earnest songwriting leave no lines drawn between Charlie Christian and Woody Guthrie. Just as soon as you think your hearing a singer/songwriter, your reeled in by an over the top acoustic guitar instrumental.
Ian Mc Feron
Seattle WA
The Seattle-based Ian McFeron Band has been carving out a name for itself ever since the single "Love Me Twice" found its way onto local radio airwaves. With prolific singer/songwriter Ian McFeron at the helm, the band takes on themes of love and heartbreak, faith and despair, and even political corruption.
Gurf Morlix
Austin, TX
Gurf has produced, recorded with, or performed with a veritable "Who's Who" of the music business, He worked with Lucinda Williams for eleven years, serving as guitarist, vocalist, bandleader and producer. He produced her critically acclaimed albums Lucinda Williams and Sweet Old World.
Scott Nolan
Winnipeg MB
“...Scott Nolan live is like Paul Newman in the Hustler,..or Jack Nicholson in china town, like Brando in on the waterfront, a great night out at the picture show , his recorded music has me scrambling for the lyric's wonderin' how i'm going to fit the beat-box around them, cause i'm gonna cover one or two,.." CR Avery
Mando Saenz
Houston, TX
Mando Saenz’ has recently moved from Houston to Nashville. He has a new album produced by R.S Field coming in February 2007. The songs on his new album Bucket, are populated with life’s losers, soul-searchers, and dreamers - the kind songwriting that won him praise for his more acoustic-tinged debut, Watertown. But this time, he leaves the Texas imagery behind.
Darrell Scott
Nashville, TN
Darrell Scott is a powerful musical spirit. A Grammy-nominated artist, an award-winning songwriter, and a first-call session musician, living and working (literally and figuratively) on the fringes of Nashville’s Music Row, Scott occupies his own unique half-acre in this city’s crowded musical landscape. In a town that’s got pigeonholing down to an art, Darrell Scott stands out as a refreshingly mischievous artist.
The Sideshow Tramps
Houston, TX
With a base of roots music: blues, bluegrass, Russian, gypsy, punk and other styles the Medicine Show (now known as The Sideshow Tramps) has created a sound spanning the globe but best described simply as Rock and Roll. The Sideshow Tramps is peasant music played for the elite as well as elite music for peasants. Audience savvy and interactive, the band builds their listeners into a festive rush of adrenaline, even marching the audience from the venue, outside, and down Main Street in a jubilant pied piper parade at the 2005 Houston Press Music Awards showcase.
The Stone Coyotes
Greenfield MA
You can’t enter lightly into an association with The Stone Coyotes. Casual music fans need not apply. If rock and roll is important to you, this music will move your soul… With support from XM Satellite Radio’s XCountry, along with loyal AAA and college stations, the band has built a strong following from New England to Texas, from coast to coast.
Graham Wilkinson
Austin, TX
Graham's a great singer/songwriter. His songs are deep from the heart. His music on stage comes across as very honest, true and real. His unique voice and style make for potent live show. Unable to be tied down to any one genre, Graham Wilkinson brings "everything you hear in Texas" to the stage, and it's all in one package.
If Stingaree was held on New Years Eve it might look a lot like this...
