Dave Savage - Tales from the Darkside

About Me

THE SONGS WOT I WROTE
So here is major update of my profile - The new CD is so very nearly finished and as you will see, I have made available some of the tracks from it for you to listen to. Sorry I haven't allowed 'downloads' but maybe in the future I will make some of them available for download too
The songs were written by me (with the exception of Please Don't Touch which was originally by Johnny Kidd & the Pirates)
SLOW DOWN BABY
There have been a lot of songs called Slown Down over the years. It seems that fast living rock 'n' rollers have a moral obligation to tell other people to slow down...Well this song is no endorsement of Speed Cameras I can tell you. It is more about the sensual experience of taking the time to do it right.
HUDDERSFIELD BLUES
Yes, a blues song all about my hometown... how novel! An excuse to cram in as many blues clichés as possible into 5 minutes. Of course it was inspired by the Stray Cats 'Drink That Bottle Down' and you should be able to hear the distinct references in some of the guitar playing. Who says that Blues has to be miserable?
TORTURED SOULS
Ahhh back to the upbeat stuff. Although the title would suggest a depressing durge, the song actually tries to be slightly optimistic about the state of the people who reside in Actual Reality and is a tipped hat towards The Cramps who were another one of my inspirations as a young and confused Rockabilly Punk Goth kind of person.
So at last, here are The Savages, listen, enjoy and please leave some comments (I can always delete them if they are not full of praise). The rest of the CD is full of influences from what sometimes seems like an age gone by. Sceamin' Jay Hawkins' Alligator Wine, Steve Gibbons' B.S.A. and we couldn't produce a CD without a tribute to our heroe and mentor Screaming Lord Sutch. We were his backing band for the last 12 years of his life, on his many gigs in the north of England, so we also included Till The Following Night and All Black & Hairy. The CD will be available at our gigs from next week, but I'm sure I could do some mail order too if anyone wats to buy one but doesn't live close enough to come along. If you have Paypal it makes life a whole easier and I can post worldwide (I'll get an accurate quote from the Post Office before shipping. So please feel free to enquire if you're interested - Thanks
The Savages have been together for over 16 years, performing their unique brand of Shock 'n' Roll to audiences all over the UK.
LET THE SHOW BEGIN
A very visual show, featuring exploding top hats, sword swallowing, fire breathing, juggling, magic, horror and arse kicking rock 'n' roll, at one point I even get my head cut clean off in a ten foot high guillotine.
For a sample of what to expect, watch the VIDEO in the videos section of my profile.
A whole show is over two hours long with the first hour being 1950's based Rock 'n' Roll, Rockabilly, Blues, played with an energetic style with fun, humour and a lot of improvisation. The second part of the show goes into the horror and Screaming Lord Sutch Tribute and the props come out, various body parts get cut off, the blood flows, the fire burns and the magic tricks amaze. (Please note, due to space limitations and performing area contitions, not all venues are suitable for some parts of the show but we do fit as much as possible into every performance).
SEX, BLOOD & ROCK 'N' ROLL
Originally recorded as our tribute to Screaming Lord Sutch after his untimely death. However just four days after completing the recording, our guitarist Austin Danks (Dankenstien) suffered a heart attack and died so the CD turned into a double tribute. It has been a constant seller over the years at our gigs and for a short while being available on eBay.
I have only a few copies left now as our new CD is in the final stages of completion. Sex, Blood & Rock 'n' Roll celebrated the Horror of Screaming Lord Sutch, the madness of Politics, the energy of rock 'n' roll music and not least a humourous approach to music making.
