DJ PELAU named himself after one of his favorite native dishes of Trinidad & Tobago (T&T), not because he's considered greedy at times, but nobody in his homeland seems to be able to agree on the origins of the name - hence his quick action to take it for himself! And plus it's a constant reminder in the North American wilderness where he now resides, of the mixture of soulful cultures he once grew up around - African, East Indian, Chinese, Portuguese, Middle Eastern, and all the wonderful mixtures as a result. Similar to his music sets which ranges from soul-heavy house, percussion feverish beats, pore-raising riddims and shirt-drenching up tempo grooves, the 'Pelau' name signifies a mixture of SOULFUL tastiness. Outside of his DJ residency gigs at the The Standard Hotel tagged "Gateway Near Heaven" (Downtown Los Angeles) for the past three years, in his private affairs, he's opened-up for Bob Sinclair, spun alongside such industry masters such as the Groove Junkies, and even graced the 1s and 2s for UK soul pioneer Omar, just to name a few international namesakes. On the local scene in LA, Pelau keeps a low profile, but when the vibe is right, he'll expose his talents alongside positive forces such as Dj Kerry, Rareform, InI Sound System, Don Guapo, Al Jackson, Dj Dusk, Dj Kaleem, David Bullock, Trent Cantrelle, Dj Higher, Jun, Jeremy Soles - just some of his friends and associates he's mixed it up with over the years. When he's not behind the decks, most of his time is spent behind his pen - publishing works for over a decade through established outlets such as Vibe, Rollingstone, BPM, The Source, Earplug.cc, Urb, Upscale and held down Unleashed Magazine's "Sounds" column for 2 years until its untimely hiatus, while also under his alias 'Mr. Marlon' held down the "Musical Murder" column for The Beat Magazine from 1997 to 2007! Most recently, his hands have been instrumental in producing/compiling for Australian label, Petrol Records, themed compilations under their 'Seriously Good Music' and 'Greatest Songs Ever' series...
