Support Turquoise Rose The Movie...THANK YOU!

About Me

The movie Turquoise Rose is a coming of age story that follows a Native American college student named Turquoise Roanhorse as she begrudgingly forgoes a trip to Europe with her friends to return to the Navajo Reservation and take care of her ailing grandmother. Through this experience however, Turquoise comes to appreciate her Navajo heritage and ancestry. She not only strengthens her relationship with her grandmother, but she also falls in love, which forces her to make the decision between going back to the city at the end of the summer or staying in the Reservation.

My Interests

Native American Film Making has made many strides. This movie in it's self has done the same. It felt good making the movie. Many friendships we're felt, happy tears shed, and many smiles gleamed. The crew would wish these same emotions for you too. Be proud of where you come from, and always strive to make this world a better place. We are all warriors in our own right, because we possess different talents and gifts. It is our duty to use our gifts, and help Mother Earth glow with happiness. We know our film will do this.

I'd like to meet:

Why was it important to have an all Navajo cast? Holt Hamilton the producer answers... It was important for me to have Navajos playing Navajos because personally I'm tired of others trying to speak the language. I try to speak the language and there's a way to say the words that is hard to learn in a few weeks of preproduction. No one else seemed to be doing it and so I took it upon myself to show the world that there is talent on the Navajo Reservation. Navajos can be beautifully portrayed on screen. The lack of experience wasn't really a concern. First of all, it's my first time directing, so there's a lack of experience on my part. Second, my feeling is you cast great people and let them run with it. Directing is 80% finished in casting. I knew the people would step up. No questions asked. I believe in them. My bigger fear is that people wouldn't believe in me being an anglo trying to tell a Native story. I don't blame them. It's been done so many times by so many people. I just hope they will give me a chance and that's why I knew I had to have more amunition going into this fight. We made the movie with almost a 90% Navajo crew, and all the Navajo parts are played by Navajos. I'm hoing my experience chopping wood and butchering on the rez and the simple fact that I ate and breathed on the Navajo Reservation for a few years will hopefully come out in the pictures we made.
