...It's called the boogie, well, boogie bop dame..

About Me

WELCOME TO THE CREPES'N'DRAPES / CHEVROLET TRIBUTE PAGE!
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A TRIBUTE PAGE, SADLY THE BAND QUIT IN 1984 AND NO FORMER MEMBERS ARE INVOLVED IN THIS MYSPACE PROFILE!!!
I first heard Crepes'n'Drapes in the late 80's when i found the album from 1978 "The Best Of British Rockabilly Volume 1".
I was really impressed by the two songs, "Boogie Bop Dame" and "Big Black Chevrolet",played in a rough and unique style...
Acutally, that was due to the fact that record company Sonet put the demo tape sent by the band directly on that LP "as is".
Boogie Bop Dame became quickly one of the anthem of the Teddy Boy Rock'n'Roll revival, and was -and it still is- covered by a large number of bands.
Then, in 1980 the band changed a little the line-up and the name into CHEVROLET.
With that name, they did several gigs in England, Holland, Belgium and Germany often in the same act of stars like Crazy Cavan, Freddie Fingers Lee and Flying Saucers.
Then, at the end of 1984, with a big loss for the R'n'R, the band vanished from the scene.
In 2004 years, thanx to the work of BLACKCAT ROCKABILLY that got in touch with former member of the band Ian Smith, was issued the cd "DRIVE ME WILD" that contains the songs of Crepes'n'Drapes the 45s of Chevrolet and the best of a live concert in Holland.
WITH THIS PAGE, I WANT TO KEEP ALIVE THE MEMORY OF THE BAND THAT PUT A MILESTONE ON THE ROCK'N'ROLL REVIVAL STYLE WITH THE ANTHEM "BOOGIE BOP DAME"

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Paul Chappell (vocals). Paul had been singing for five years with Crepes 'n' Drapes until he left them in 1978, due to ill health and a full-time day job. In 1980 Paul was asked to be the lead vocalist of Chevrolet, and he had no hesitation in accepting the job of fronting one of the most exciting rock 'n' roll bands around.

Mike Holder (Lead Guitar). Mike was the guitarist that gave his unmistakable sound to the only two official songs from Crepes'n'Drapes (Boogie Bop Dame and Big Black Chevrolet). He left the band in 1979.

Nick Ferris (lead guitar). Nick joined Crepes 'n' Drapes in 1979, when Mike Holder decided to leave the band. Nick had already played in various local groups covering a wide range of musical styles and he quickly adapted to playing rock 'n' roll with great skill and enthusiasm.

Johnny 'Sticks' Jozwiak (drums). John had been playing drums for six years. For four of those years he was the driving force of Crepes 'n' Drapes, his drumming providing a solid foundation.

Geoff Hunt (bass). Geoff had been a rhythm guitarist for Crepes 'n' Drapes for a while in 1976. He was also responsible for the recording of the two songs issued on the Sonet album. Actually it was Geoff's idea to form Chevrolet after John, Nick and Ian had become disillusioned with Crepes 'n' Drapes.

Ian Smith (rhythm guitar). Apart from playing rhtyhm guitar, Ian was also the main songwriter of the band, having contributed the above mentioned songs "Boogie Bop Dame" and "Big Black Chevrolet" to the repertoire of Crepes 'n' Drapes, of which he was a founder member.
