Street Poetry backed by Swamp Funk

About Me

El Mo'Roonz was formed as "Da Warlocks" in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in the spring of 1994 Early members were mc/poet,producer, Lu-T The Ruff-Neck Poet, mc,FatAL,producer,G-Roc(Greg Dukes), guitarist Funme and hookman, Poochie. Lu-T and G-Roc trekked to Atlanta in the latter part of '94 Reggae bassist and guitarist, Ras Redgie D. joined Da Warlocks in 1995. Released two projects as Da Warlocks: "Back to da Dirt" in 1997 and "Swamp Science" in 1999. Changed name to El Mo'Roonz in 2001 and released "FiyaWada" in 2003. All released on the independent imprint, Zuudiakus Entertainment. Lu-T released the mixtape "Ghetto Prophet" in Fall of 2006, mixed by Greg Dukes. This in anticipation of "The Equinox" EP (He's born the same day as John Coltrane), and the full length solo Ghetto Prophet LP. He'll be enlistin' his longtime bassist/guitarist, Ras Redgie D, to assist. Lu-T and El Mo'Roonz have been a staple in the Atlanta underground and occassionally overground music scene for over a decade. To them the music is part of a larger divine and national movement. Lu-T's vocal tone and style is somewhere between Gil Scott Heron and Brother J of X-Clan. Their music is described by them as a gumbo of hiphop spoken word roots blues soul and jazz they call "Swamp Funk". Historical Themes, Social Commentary, Ancient Wisdom,Southern Heritage, Sacred Sexuality, and The Cannibus Sativa as a Holy Sacrament are themes found permeating through their music. And of course the Prophethood of Noble Drew Ali and their national heritage as Moorish Americans. Says Lu-T, "Bob Marley passed me the baton but now the message is in a different language and from a different perspective. Bob promoted One Love and I promote Love, Truth, Peace, Freedom, and Justice." They've backed up many of the Def-Poets, as well as other vocalists, in many of the venues around the A.Get your layout at Myspace

Sounds Like: Picture the vocal tone and intelligence of Gil Scott Heron or Brother J of X-Clan but spat with a down south accent. Staight swagger on the track. Heavy, rootsy basslines and guitar licks. A gumbo of slang reflectin' all Lu-T's influences. Vocal samples and some turntable work. Beating down the block but laid back. Fire lyrics and bottom beats...ghetto prophecy!
