About Me

Phreq1c3 has been djing for 11 years now, born in Nottingham and then moving to Loughborough he found himself a good circle of friends (Hiro included) who all had one same interest....music. Buying himself his first pair of decks at the age of 17, he started out buying house and trance records. He picked up the art of beat-matching quickly and wanted to become a club dj. Sending out various mix tapes to local clubs worked to no avail due to the sheer volume of bedroom dj's all with the same idea.
He got bored of the house and trance scene a couple of years later and got into drum & bass, "dnb was so much more fun to mix and experiment with" he states. Getting himself known locally as "a wicked dnb dj" friends of his friends who were running their own nights caught wind of this and got him playing at various gigs to include The Venue (Long Eaton) Loughborough University, Echo's (Loughborough) and The Cellar (Loughborough) under the dj name Breakout.
A few more years went by and he developed a firm interest in music production after one of his friends did a sound engineering course and taught him the basics. He then started trying to make his own dnb sound but was then introduced to breakbeat. Instantaneously loving this type of music he went to various events that two of his friends (Hiro & Dreadeye) had been invited to play at and with every one he attended, his love for breaks grew more and more.
In 2006, due to unforeseen circumstances, Dreadeye had to bow out of the dj duo and Phreq1c3 was asked to take his place. "playing my first gig with Hiro at Mint alongside the Groove Diggerz and NAPT was awesome" he says. They also did the Mint first birthday gig back in november 2006 alonside Dopamine, Mini Da Minx, Robin Cooper and Cheeks & Sparks (residents), "Mint is definitely one of the best breaks club nights in Leicestershire".
After a couple more gigs for the Slackers Convention at The Hub (Brighton) and Ambush at The Social (Nottingham) Hiro and Phreq1c3 were invited by Pete Jordan to play for Spectrum at Original Four in Leicester as residents. Shocked and amazed at this given opportunity they have done warm up sets for the likes of The Freestylers, Meat Katie and Hexadecimal. Spectrum definitely lives up to it's name as being the best breakbeat event with the best crowds and the biggest names in breaks. Pete Jordan has set up a sure-fire winner with Spectrum and we have this awesome opportunity of being residents to thank him for.
Hiro and Phreq1c3 have recently decided to bring the breakbeat vibe to Loughborough and start their own night called Cadence which is at The Custard bar. After thinking that Loughborough needed an alternative music night due to the samey sound that circulates the area. Well.....they weren't wrong and it's now onwards and upwards for Cadence. They now think that it is being recognised for it's funky fresh, electro sound and that people are now purposefully attending the nights for this and not just for the cheap booze.
They have so far had the likes of dj's Andy Mcallister and Mc JP (Splank), The Silo Dj's (Silo Recordings), Funkbudha (Fragilebreaks.nl, NSBradio.co.uk), Freeman (Spectrum), Beats Persona (Acidphonic.co.uk), Steve Maccabe (Punch Drunk Records) and Robin Cooper (Robincooper.net) playing to the crowd and not to forget our own turntablist resident dj Ian H (Junk) who's turntable ability is second to none. Phreq1c3 thanks you for reading this bio if you managed to make it this far and hopes that you like the tune he has made, There shall be better stuff on here soon so please visit this page again and maybe leave a comment on what you think, cheers :)
