...when a wave strikes it the world vanishes...

About Me

I'm a singer, pianist and composer from York. I write songs and poems and paint pictures. When I'm not doing that I'm usually sliding down mountains, or thinking about mountains. I hate following recipes and I have a problem with discipline and routine. I like shiny objects, woods in the early evening, fantastical stories and daydreaming. It bothers me that to be spontaneous takes far more planning and preparation than doing planned, prepared things. I write large-scale classical compositions when my piano practice is going badly. Listening to great jazz inspires me and intimidates me. I am resigned to spending the rest of my life peering over the garden walls of people with a comfortable lifestyle and wondering what it would be like to live in a nice big house with a pretty garden... and knowing that I might never live like that because I don't care enough about money to try and make any. All I want to do is become a better improvising musician, no matter how poor I have to be to make time for it. I'm about to start a doctorate in composition, which hopefully means I'll have a few more years to play piano before I am forced to make sensible decisions about how to survive. I change my biography every five minutes because I'm restless, dissatisfied and unsure of myself. I feel peaceful when I hear Joni Mitchell's voice because it reminds somehow that what is important to me is just to feel something, no matter if it's good or bad.
