Swampkamp are a dynamic African Hip Hop ensemble born and based in Uganda. The band members are four talented young men who perform under the names of AK47, Boogie.Mo, Ivy i.t and Afande Shaban. They have been together for five years and have been performing live since 2003. Their first major performance was with together with Uganda’s best known reggae band, Blood Brothers, at the 2003 Street Jam hosted by Club Silk. Since then they have added a long list of live shows to their cv, including curtain raising for Mr.Nice in Kampala in May of 2004, and El Diablo percussion group from La Reunion Island France.Their powerful performances of music with meaning and message include a concert for peace in the war-torn northern town of in Gulu, and joining up with the Blood Brothers once more for their ‘Peace, Love and Unity Tour’ of West Nile during the Christmas and New year period. The tour was endorsed by Straight Talk Uganda, an NGO that disseminates information on responsible sex to Ugandan adolescents, and SwampKamp helped to spread their message to ‘Think critically and make wise decisions’. The unusual name SwampKamp was derived from the band members’ days as boy scouts, where they would camp in a swampy area, and it also denotes their Kamp, the police barracks neighbourhood of Nsambya, Kampala, where they all grew up together. SwampKamp have completed the recording of their first album with Bushfire Records in Bukasa, Kampala .And now working on their second project dubbed(From Kingston to Westnile),a project they feel is paying and taking them back to their African roots WESTNILE. Their mission and message is simple; a positive contribution to the face of hip hop music and culture in Africa.
