Luann Turner

Traditional Country, Western Swing, Honky-Tonk!

About Me

.. Luann is a has been a local favorite in the traditional country music scene in Missouri for over 20 years. She started her music career at the age of 18 playing bass and singing traditional country in a family band at local dances & shows. For a while, she ventured into the Bluegrass and Big Band circles not only because she loves those types of music as well as country, but just to gain valuable experience and become a more well-rounded musician. Eventually she went back to her country roots and was given a huge break when she was hired by lead guitar legend Speedy Haworth (of Ozark Jubilee & KWTO radio fame, guitarist & singer for Red Foley, Rex Allen, Porter Wagoner, LeRoy Van Dyke, Patsy Cline, & the Tall Timber Trio to name a few). He hired her to play bass & sing lead and 3-part harmony with his band, The Tall Timber Band. She has toured with him for over 13 years now. She has also worked with Ron Hoot Productions doing stage shows at the Oasis Theater and The Juanita K. Hammons Hall for Performing Arts, both located in Springfield, MO, and other semi-local venues. She also has been working regularly as bass player / feature & harmony singer at the Truman Lake Opry in Warsaw, MO. She has opened shows for Gene Watson, Ronnie McDowell, LeRoy Van Dyke, Mel McDaniel, and John Conlee. Even more so than her lead singing abilities, Luann has been touted as one of the best female back-up vocalists in the state. With her uncanny ability to hear harmonies and an ear for balance, she provides a crystal clear, hauntingly beautiful, and positively chilling musical backdrop behind any musician she sings with on the stage or in the studio. Although a solo career is certainly one of her pursuits, Luann is further interested in doing more extensive backup work with traditional country, bluegrass, and traditional southern gospel artists. Although her harmony talents were not put to use on her debut cd because of time limitations, you can plan on hearing it on future records. Her debut cd is now available, "Diva of Texas Dance Hall Music", released August 2006, with the Mel Tillis Band. She can be heard on several Live 365 radio stations, TCM Radio, several Texas, California, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Florida, Minnesota, and other US stations, and various country stations out of Germany, Denmark, The Netherlands, Australia, New South Wales, Great Britain, Belgium, New Zealand & Sweden. For a full, current listing, please contact Luann with your request. And if you hear one of her songs on your radio station and enjoy it, please take the time to help Luann by calling or emailing your station and requesting her songs. If you want your favorite traditional country, indie, or honky-tonk station to start playing Luann, please let them know what you want to hear! Every little bit you can do to help support your favorite independent artists will help keep them on the air and keep making the music you love to listen to. Thank you!
