Amsterdam Jazz Orchestra

About Me

In 2005, The Amsterdam Jazz Orchestra was founded. In 2006, the band started a successful series of gigs in The Sugarfactory, Meander, the Bimhuis and Club 8, all renowned Amsterdam venues. Guestsoloists featured are inspiring and talented Dutch jazz giants such as Martijn Vink, Ilja Reijngoud, Tom Beek, Ruud Breuls, Sjoerd Dijkhuizen, Jasper Blom, Maarten van der Grinten, Fay Claassen and Eric Vloeimans. Also in 2006, the Amsterdam Jazz Orchestra won the Dutch Big-band Contest as well as the Alkmaar Jazz Festival. Amongst the many people who helped the band this year to develop our own sound and feel belong Michael Abene and Dick Oatts, who worked the band through a series of workshops. This year, with the support of amongst others the Thuiskopiefonds, the Amsterdam Jazz Orchestra finalized their CD and tour, featuring the original compositions of Dutch composers and arrangers (Johan Plomp, Joan Reinders, Martin Fondse Ilja Reingoud, Henk Huizinga, Willem Friede).
