Who is this Italian guy here? Yes I am originally from Switzerland and son of Italian immigrants. I didn't get serious with the music up until when I graduated from my Construction Management school in Switzerland. I bought a guitar, an amp and a chord book and played the crap out of that guitar for about 6 months.
With some of my youth friends Roberto and Giovanni Vigorito we founded our first band where we played some old R+B songs. Later I joined "Ladri di Zucchero" to front my first "real" band as the lead vocalist. I occasionally played the guitar in the band as well, but I was mainly singing. For 7 years until my departure to the US, I was able to gain valuable experience in singing, recording and gigging. In that period I had several side projects going, and one of them was a TOTO tribute band.
With "Ladri di Zucchero" ( Claudio Pellegrini, Giuseppe Piazzi, Roberto Vigorito)we didn't play only covers or created the first originals I wrote, but most profoundly we developed a strong friendship that still endures today.
When I moved to the US six years ago I did not seek a band to play right away and waited for the right moment. That moment took 5 years to come. I originally wanted to start a U2 tribute band but realized that nobody in the Minneapolis music scene was for something like that. Until I met Eric Danielson, also a guitar player, we started a band together. "Almost Gone" (Eric Danielson, Chris Hayden, Pauly Hansen, Danny Melgarejo)was born but gone within months. After that band a new band emerged out, which is the band I play in today, OCEANS.
So, why all these Italian songs and a solo stuff? Deeply I needed to get out some songs that I wrote in my Italian mother tongue and since we were done with songwriting in OCEANS I took this moment to do this. Thanks for listening.
Chi sono? Sono un figlio di emmigranti che si sono trasferiti in Svizzera. Non ho fatto sul serio con la musica poco dopo di ricevere il mio diploma da geometra d'edilizia. Mi sono comprato la prima chitarra con amplificatore e ricordo di averla suonata finche si e spezzata in due.
Con l'aiuto di due vecchi amici d'infanzia ho iniziato la mia prima band suonando le vecchie canzoni di rythm n' blues. Poco dopo ho avuto l'occasione di prendere il microfono con i "Ladri di Zucchero" (Claudio Pellegrini, Giuseppe Piazzi, Roberto Vigorito). Occasionalmente suonavo la chitarra ma il piu improtante era ch'ero abile di fare esperienza, di suonare dal vivo, cantare e incidere musica nei studio. Le prime canzoni mie sono state scritte nel quel periodo li, ma la cosa piu straordinaria era che siamo stati capaci di svilupare un'amicizia profonda che sta durando fino ad oggi.
Trasferito qui nei Stati Uniti ho aspettato 5 anni per iniziare un nuovo viaggio con dei musicisti. La mia prima idea era di metter in piedi una U2 tribute band. Ma qui a Minneapolis i musicisti si interessano piu per il metallo che musica rock legera. Trane Eric Danielson, che poco dopo abbiamo messo in piedi "Almost Gone". La prima band non e durata tanto e poco dopo si era cristallizata una nuova band, OCEANS, dove suono la chitarra oggi.
Ma perche allora tutte queste canzoni in italiano??Perche il modo di esprimermi nella mia lingua materna e una cosa che non riesco a farlo in nessun'altra lingua del mondo. Poi con gli OCEANS abbiamo finito di scrivere delle canzoni al momento. E la passione che conta. Grazie per l'ascolto!
