"Harry" C. Underwood was born and raised in the farming community of Homestead, FL. After leaving high school in 1986, he worked a variety of odd jobs in the construction and service industries. Prior to settling in Springfield, Tennessee, Harry lived and worked in Miami and New Orleans.
About the artist
Harry is a self taught artist. He has shown in a handful of galleries in Nashville, as well as a few other scattered places around the south. With an eye for the subtleties of life, Harry's work reads like a Polaroid image wrapped in a dime store candy wrapper.
His characters are sometimes happy, sometimes haunting. The landscapes, like movie sets, isolate the characters into surreal moments presented in snapshot form. His works are painted on wood panels (always revered), a tactile medium sharing its existence with handmade drug store signs and NEHI bottle cutouts. If you are interested in purchasing his work, that's no problem. Harry's work is meant to be sold. He creates painting after painting in his home studio outside Nashville. If you see something you like on one of his many sites, there is a good chance he just might have another or be willing to make one for you.
